Ultimate 8 has been declared as a "beta" upgrade to Ultimate 7... Am I right in thinking that "betas" are (or should be) free as they are in development???

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, you are absolutely correct, if this is happening. Not only should it be free to test, but it certainly should not be called an upgrade. Only the final release version should be considered an upgrade.

There have been many discussions on the forum regarding this issue, and it would be disappointing to think that Iobit are not taking user feedback on board.
