File Associations Gone (some/most)

Not sure if this is related to the metro apps not working (because now they aren't). I run 7.3 pro with everything checked, and after many of my file associations are gone, and I am unable to re-associate them. I have tried through cmd line, right click-> selecting program, and through setting default program on the control panel. I have also tried redownloading and reinstalling many of the affected programs, to no avail. Under my "set default programs" on control panel, many are now not showing. Under "set associations", many file types that were previously working (.pdf) etc are now saying "Unknown Application". Any help is appreciated, thanks

Hi bonfire62,

To help you out of the problem, please reboot your computer to see whether the issue continues.

If it does, please send us the related screenshots to show it for us to look into.

Guide for taking screenshot.

Besides, please download the tool from http://testdemo.iobit.com/InfoHelperV7.exe

Then double click to run this tool and click “Save report to Desktop. You will get a zipped file IObit_Debug_Info.zip on your desktop and please send it to us so that we can get the detailed information to look into.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi bonfire62,

To solve the issue, please take the following steps:

  1. Please open ASC, click on the Rescue icon on the top right to go to the rescue center, click Rescue Registry, select one backup date before the issue and then click Undo Changes button to restore those changes, then reboot your computer to see whether the issue continues.
  2. If not, please open ASC => click Rescue icon on the top right => click System Restore on the left hand panel => click View System Restore to restore your system, then reboot your computer to see whether the issue continues.
  3. If the issue solved, please separately select Registry Fix, scan and repair, reboot the computer to see whether the issue occurs again, if yes, please download the tool from http://testdemo.iobit.com/InfoHelperV7.exe

Then double click to run this tool and click “Save report to Desktop. You will get a zipped file IObit_Debug_Info.zip on your desktop and please send it to us so that we can get the detailed information to look into.

Thanks for your work.;-)

  • 3 weeks later...
Did a restore then a restart, but the registry still did not work. Tried updating to the new beta version and trying it, still don't have file associations on pdfs, rars, and a few others.

Hi bonfire62,

Could you please send back the debug info file mentioned in step 3 of my earlier post?

Thanks very much.:-)
