Language Checking Tool

Recommended Posts

Hi all translators,

We always make some modification to our original language file English.lng when we release a new beta version or new version as we modify or add some functions. It's a little difficult for you to read the whole file and translate it again, which is also a waste of your time and work.

The language check tool was updated to v2.5 now. You can download it from http://testdemo.iobit.com/tools/lang...ng-tool2.5.exe

About a language file:

A program language file is composed with several sections and each section is composed with many different strings. So there should be no duplicated sections in a program file and no duplicated strings under a same section. Section name (information quoted with “[]”) and strings name (information at the left of “=”) should be kept without any change.

Usage:

Here we take English.lng and French.lng as example.

Step 1. Put the latest English.lng file and the partially translated or outdated French.lng in a same folder.

Step 2. Drag the latest English.lng to the tool window and double click on French.lng in the bottom left of the tool window to compare the two language files automatically. It will list information under Value (English.lng) and CurrValue in three colors: Black, Red, and Gray.

Black font means new strings added in the latest English.lng file, which is not translated in the French.lng. You can translate each Black Value (English.lng) directly by inputting its translation in CurrValue directly next to Value (English.lng). Then click the Save and Refresh button. Those newly translated strings will be automatically saved to your French.lng and will not be listed in this tool any more.

Red font indicates format error, there will be three situations:

1. Format errors related to strings with combination of special symbol “%” like "%s", "%d", "<a>%d</a>" or "<a>%s</a>", "%u", "%.0n", "%d%%". Those “%” combination symbols are forbidden for translation as any modification to those symbols will lead to malfunction of the program. You are not allowed to change "%s" to "%d" or "% s". You should strictly follow the original format.

2. In some language, percentage like 100% or 300% will be translated to %100 or %300. So these strings will also be marked in RED. But translators can ignore them as different languages have different expression for percentage.

3. If some strings in French have two “=” will also be listed in Red. Please remove the extra “=” from CurrValue. So it can also find error like two strings were merged into one by mistakenly removing the line break among them.

Gray font means we have removed these outdated strings from our latest English.lng. You can simply click the Remove Gray button to remove these strings from your translated file and then click Save and Refresh button.

Step 3. After you completed all these translation/modification work, please remember to click the Save and Refresh button to save these changes and refresh the display to check whether there is still something needed to be corrected.

Step 4. If there are information listed in the bottom left window of Duplicate Section, it means that the French.lng has duplicate section, which should be removed. Please open both English.lng and French.lng files -> copy the duplicated section name from the window and search it from both English.lng and French.lng -> then refer to English.lng to correct French.lng by removing the duplicated Section -> save the changes in the opened French.lng. Close both English.lng and French.lng

Right-click Option:

To make the translation and modification process easy, we also added some right-click options. When you right click on any string, you will get these:

Copy Name: Copy the strings name for the string that you click, so that you can locate in the language file quickly by using Ctrl + F.

Copy Section: Copy the section name for the string that you click, so that you can locate in the language file quickly by using Ctrl + F.

Export "Add":It will export all black strings that haven't translated in French.lng to a separate file. So you can translate them in a separate file rather than in the tool. After you finish the translation, please copy and paste the translated strings to the correct Section. You can not add them to the end of your French.lng directly as it may cause duplicated sections.

Export "Delete": It will export all redundant strings in your French.lng, which can be removed from your French.lng.

Export "Format error": It will export all strings in red font.

Export "All": It will export all information listed in this tool. Normally, you do not need this feature.

Advanced Feature:

It can also help you compare two English.lng files, like English.lng in ASCV7.1 and English.lng in ASC7.2.

Place the two English.lng files in different folder. Drop one English.lng to this tool window -> click Compare English button on the top to load the other English.lng -> It will list the difference of the two files automatically, including every change, like change Label_Title_TurboBoost.Caption=Turbo Boost to Label_Title_TurboBoost.Caption=Turbo Booster. So this feature will help you find the updated strings in every program version update easily. It also supports right-click option to help you export the changed/added strings.

Thanks very much for all your great work. :-P

This tool is very unfriendly to Hebrew...

:-(

In order to support Hebrew it should use the UTF-8 encoding or another 7 optional encodings, please email me directly at:

-e-mail address is deleted for security reasons - (written in leet speak to avoid spammer bots...)

EDIT:No e-mail address on the posts please. PM to Cicely or wait for a reply here.

Problems...

Now the translation tool can open files, and show differences, but the save buttons cannot save changes done...

The things are not clear, witch file is modified, no new one is created. Does it, or should it update the old file by adding new changes and deleting old lines witch are not more usefull for the new version? Why not creating a new copy with the last change date, so that the translator can save his work successively in order to spare time when a bug is achieving?

Thank you for correcting this, I cannot use this tool... And the sentence : "This is a life-time license code, which is only valid for Advanced SystemCare V5. Please reinstall your Advanced SystemCare V5 PRO." is not convenient for your users, you should make a 50% discount on the new ASC6 licence... Or is this just requested for the automatic update of ASC to the 6 version? In this case, you should say this...

Yours faithfully,

IObit translation tools...

It open a small part of the file (20 lines) and when I correct the currvalue, and click on save, either it does not save anything, either it saves and modify both columns english.lng and the curvalue column, both are the same... Why?
