The Final Declaration on Malwarebytes issue (released on Nov. 13th, 2009)

We have received a large number of feedback and suggestions from Internet users since IObit Security 360 v1.0 was released on September 7, 2009. And we also paid special attention to questions regarding the old database of IObit Security 360 among the feedback. Due to the serious flaws and defects of our sample submission system and management, the old database includes malware names from non-IObit data sources. We are willing to face all of the problems and take responsibility for the disputes.

 

We have apologized for all the inconvenience, meanwhile, we have taken immediate actions to remove all disputed data and updated the whole database online on November 3. We also have finished the third complete update of IObit Security 360 on Sunday (2009-11-15, at noon) since it was formally released - IObit Security 360 v1.30.

 

The existing database is collected from hundreds of thousands of malware samples in abundant database accumulated by IObit within 5 years. We welcome more useful feedback and strict supervision for the updated version of IObit Security 360 from users and other vendors. Eventually, IObit would like to work with all anti-malware vendors, to enhance the overall evolution of malware detection and removal, make breakthrough in software functions, and work constantly to provide users with more and better user experience by contributing a long-term, practical and substantive work.

People that are well informed ought to know all this.

 

The laxness of IObit in collecting malware data in the fall of 2009 has been explained and apologized for, and following the explanation IObit removed around 45% of the malware definition database (core.def) to be on the safe side from further attacks.

Since then they have tightened up the collecting procedure and have in less than a year exceeded the amount of malware definitions in their .def file.

 

I updated the information in my file about the size of the definition files in IS360 (25.01.2011) - result as follows: (size measured in bytes)

 

(core.def 4.562.334 largest size version 1.1)(Nov.2009)

Now (25.01.2011): 5.595.543 (122,65 % of largest size)

5.531.962 (10.01.2011) core.def (New updated definition file)

63.581 (25.01.2011) additional core.def (New updated additional definition file)

 

Ranters, antagonists and competitors of course see an advantage in keeping the issue open.

It is a good practise for people browsing the internet to notice the date of the posts viewed!

 

About web of trust (WOT) one should bear in mind that they also rely on user feedback, and this can easily be manipulated by users that want to harm the reputation of IObit.

One should always check how statistics are gathered and used.

 

The comparison competition for IS360 generated enormous interest and was therefore a thorn in the eye of competitors.

The competition was discontinued (alas) as part of the settlement with MBAM.

 

I had been looking forward to see a well-balanced fair comparison between the leading anti-malware programs.
