ASC 10 Speed Up Tab

Every time I run the Speed Up routine, it tells me "Speed up the response of front-end programs" needs to be "Optimized". Every time. What is the Registry setting that this is supposed to set, and why does it always get un-set when I exit?

I ran demo. When I opened it, it said "Click", I did. Then it said "Ok" I clicked it and it said "Click" again, so I clicked the close box. There was no file "testlog.txt" created. The only output file was "test.log". Nothing was created on the desktop. The "test.log" file is as follows:

Note: This condition is present in ASC Pro 10.2.0.721 as well.

I have further info that may shed some light on the problem. I have found the answer, 100% repeatable. Here's the routine:

Under "Settings/System Optimization/Computer Optimization" set to "Top Performance (Home User)"

Under "Settings/System Optimization/Network Optimization" set to "DSL", click "OK"

Under "Quick Settings/Ultimate Tuneup/Computer Optimization" set to "Top Performance (Home User)"

Under "Quick Settings/Ultimate Tuneup/Network Optimization" set to "DSL", click "OK", click "Close".

Now:

Under "Speed Up/Deep Optimization/Details" you will see that "Ultimate Tuneup" has reset the setting for "Speed up the response of front-end programs".

If you set "Computer Optimization" to either "Basic" or "Daily Use (Home User)", it will not reset the setting.

Unfortunately, I use "Top Performance (Home User)". Therein lies my problem.

We cannot reproduce the issue according to your description. Please download the revised demo from http://www.wikisend.com/download/383692/TestDemo.exe, run the demo as you did before, and then send us the "test.log" file.

With the testing I did yesterday, I am convinced that "Ultimate Tuneup" is resetting the flag on that setting as soon as I exit ASC. If this test doesn't help you resolve the problem, I will just have to run with "Ultimate tuneup" set to "Daily Use (Home User)". Here are the results of test.log file:

Hi Leighton,

From the latest testlog file, we find Deep Optimization optimized the item successfully. There is a possibility that another software reset the optimized item. Do you run any other program before the item is reset? We advise you check if any other software installed on your computer could reset the item and temporarily disable the operation of that program to see how it works.

No, nothing that would change the setting.

If it were another program resetting the flag, why would my changing the mode from "Top Performance (Home User)" to "Daily Use (Home User)" correct the problem?

If I have the setting in "Ultimate Tuneup" set to "Top Performance (Home User)" and reset "Speed up the response of front-end programs" to be optimized, then quit and restart ASC, the flag will have been reset to unoptimized.

If I have the setting in "Ultimate Tuneup" set to "Daily Use (Home User)" and reset "Speed up the response of front-end programs" to be optimized, then quit and restart ASC, the flag will not have been reset.

Evidently when I quit ASC, "Ultimate Tuneup" is doing the reset. Your test routine sets the flag and then checks the setting without quitting the test. The flag remains set until it quits and relinquishes control to "Ultimate Tuneup". If I set the flag within ASC, it will remain set until I quit Asc, at which point "Ultimate Tuneup" resets it.

Do you see what I mean? Do you see why the test shows things to be OK? It stays in control until it quits, allowing "Ultimate Tuneup" to have control again.

I'm totally confused. Now things are working as they should. The set of conditions cited in post #17 were the way things worked Tuesday morning. Now, on Wednesday morning, things are behaving as they should. The only change between then and now is the application of "Microsoft Update Tuesday" patches. Maybe Microsoft had a glitch that they fixed (Hard to believe, I know). I apologize for the hassle, but the condition did exist as stated.

For unnecessary plug-ins and tool-bars, different users may have different choices. You could refer to the user ratings from others.

Thanks for the replies. Very much appreciated. ...A couple of thoughts come to mind, though.

First, assuming I wish to keep all of the installed plugins and toolbars, can there be a way to stop ASCU's Speed Up tab from constantly red-flagging me to "Check Now"? To be smart enough to learn that the amount of add-ons to my browsers has remained pretty much the same over the course of time?

By the same token, ASCU intelligently scans my registry, shortcuts, vulnerabilities, junk files, etc., and suggests which ones can or should be safely removed, cleaned, fixed, and/or optimized. Shouldn't it be capable of doing the same with browser plugins/toolbars by at least offering suggestions as to which ones may be unnecessary on my system? I realize each user has their own preferences, but I think it would save quite a bit of time and effort if I didn't have to research them one by one.

I got 35 here and the good side of mine that those toolbars and plugins has a lot of high users rate so it is currently good so far.
