Malware 7 starts then stops. new dell, just installed

Recommended Posts

update: iobit malware fighter service is running, listed in performance moniter as accessing hard drive.iobit malware fighter scan engine and iobit malware fighter tips running, under ram. still closes itself so can't run full scan or change settings.

dell inspiron 15, 3000 series, w10, brand new, all windows updates installed as of 5/29. removed mcafee with their removal tool. deleted/disabled dell support software as it accessed hard drive at max repeatedly. disabled a few services but think i have them all back on, at least as manual.

have run all tools under scan. mf7 starts up and screen says checking system or something, graphic shows line moving down pc screen, then software closes. thought it might be calling a service I had changed to manual, but other than xbox ones I think everything is on that does not relate to remote control of my pc, or my pc hosting a session to another.

any suggestions would be appreciated. this is new system I am setting up for my best friend and will not be there for day to day, so really want to get malware set up for her.

thanks

I suggest that you do a search for any folders related to McAfee still remaining on your pc. From experience I have found that removing McAfee rarely removes everything. It often leaves residual files/folders. Particularly in C:Programs....C:Programs x86 and Appdata. I personally remove McAfee from any machine I work on. I usually use Iobit Uninstaller as it has a powerfu scan that removes residual files and registry entries.

The other thing to do is to temporarily disable windows defender, as it may be blocking MF.

If none of these solutions work, your only option is to start your pc in safe mode. This boots your pc with a minimum of windows components running. Then install MF and run it manually. If it works then at least you will know that some other program or process is causing the MF issue when you do a normal boot.
