Browser Add-on from Hell !

We have been having trouble with a Browser Add-on called 'InfoAtoms',

that has been Installing without us knowing it. :evil:

We can Not determine which website is installing it?

 

It puts antimated advertisments everywhere. :?

and slows the Browser to about 1/4-speed.

The browser 'pop-up blocker' will Not block the Ads.

 

It's easy to Un-install but is a real problem, since we keep getting it from unknown location.

 

Anyone else having problems with 'InfoAtoms' :?:

or know it's website origins?

Hi Toppack!

 

I assume this is the newest release of Windows and IE based on your previous posts? And that you are stll running two A/V's based on previous posts? You have to kill this one from the center. I have no idea how your machines are networked... you must cure the core then the others won't be affected. The infection is on the core by your description.

 

Please explain and clarify further... especially the configuration of your network.

 

If you Isolate to the core of your network (the parent machine) and run this software... I think you will be fixed.:-D [EDIT: by Mel... I am retracting this advisement Toppack and moving your thread to the Malware Removal section. I have de-linked my suggestion.

Hi Toppack and all!

 

Please humor me in the movement of this thread/posts. You know that I don't do movements lightly. I am not sure but I believe there is a rootkit infection. I think it prudent to see what Superdave's thoughts are.:-D

By your description Toppack... I have good reason to believe your system(s) are compromised.

I always welcome any comments by Dave,

but this is Not Infectious Malware.

As I said before, it is easily uninstalled.

It even comes with an Un-install utility.

 

I'm trying to determine which website is installing it, without permission.

I've about decided it is from a Software-download site, that we visit often,

but I'm not sure yet, so I will not name it.

 

I would prefer this thread to be in a Open forum, so anyone with knowledge about the source can add to it.

BTW - I don't blame ithe producers of the 'InfoAtoms' software, for this problem.

Some website is using their software to Sell advertisments.

FBI Money Pak malware - virus

 

The Atom is terrible I was able to get it off, but like you, I am really wondering why ASC Ultimate did not catch it? I know you did not ask that exactly but I am. I recently came across something worse, the FBI MoneyPak Scam. It hijackets your whole system and tell you your computer is being lock up until you pay a fine for whatever reason -- in my case they accused me of accessing child porn and wanted $300 as a fine to be sent to them by a Moneypak card. It looks really official. Your computer is given a White Screen -- total white out. Why didn't ASC anitvirus ultimate pro catch this?? Apparently this is a prolbem with many others -- look up "White screen of death" -- which is a misnomer as it is nothing like the old "Blue screen of death" as the old Blue Screen was really a problem with your software or hardware conflict while this piece of junk is induced by a crook or crooks -- I wish someone would come up with some kind of backward tracking with the ability to bounce the virus right back into the crooks system. I took me most of the day trying to get this thing off without having to destroy my HD and start over, which some have resorted to. There is more than one brand of WHITE SCREEN, some do a double load, which is the most difficult to get around and destroy, which, of course is the one I had. If anyone is interested at all I will post the fix I came up with. But I am still dissappointed Iobit was not help at all. I had a second computer and came to the forum and searched FBI MoneyPak Scam and got nothing -- disappointed. Hey, this is serious stuff, the White Screen scam I had would even block me from entering safe mode, and when I put in my rescue DVD -- Nothing.

The reason why ASCU did not catch is because The problem with this FBI malware is that it's always morphing and getting smarter, so what works today may not work tomorrow. Your AV has probably blocked it before, but because it morphs so rapidly, you could have been unlucky and got infected in between updates to your AV database.

 

You should post your solution as it may be helpful to others.

It seems to me it should be easy to Fix FBI Malware

Partition images are so easy to make. Computer hijacked? Reinstall latest system image.

 

Am I missing something? I'm not trying to be a wiseguy. I have fixed so many problems with my system images. What would I do without these backups?

They always refer to these images as "golden copies". That way, if something goes wrong, you could always revert.
