Power-supply Air-flow Direction

Recommended Posts

I did more testing to determine if it mattered which way the air flows through a power-supply. (Pull or Push)

And found that there is No difference in temp, at the PSU's internal heatsink.

I tested at Many different wattage loads, by connecting case-fans, hard-drives, etc.

Flow-rate is the main thing that controls the temp, (size, design and speed of fan or fans), not the direction of air-flow.

Note - Someone needs to design a PSU, for computers, that can be Water-cooled

Yes, a very different designed assembly would be required

but I think it could be a much smaller and compact unit if it was water-cooled.

The cabling-connectors could all be in a flat row.

The fan and heat-sinks use most of the space in a power-supply anyway.

The design of the heat conductor plate and water-block, for all components, would be the most difficult part.

There are now water-blocks available for CPU, GPU, RAM, North-bridge and South-bridge,

so it only seems logical that the PSU should be Next.
