Branded versions of Windows-7 ?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about purchasing several 'Branded' W-7-Pro Disks & Codes,

but was wondering if the License-Code that comes with them are the same type number as the number that comes with normal retail type?

In other words, can I use the 'Branded' Code, when installing W-7, using a retail Disk which I already have?

(If so, the Codes are all I need)

Has anyone here installed a Branded version or know about the Code number?

Note: Branded copies are made to be sold thru companies like Dell and HP, which must be different than the OEM versions

and they can be purchased at a lower cost.

branded/public W7

Hi Toppack,

Dont know if that will work, but i do know that W7 checks (MS) your product code, everytime you start-up.

its part of the W7 package. Mr Bean spoke of a solution to this check about a month or so ago, HOPE he's OK, SO my answer is i dont think big brother will allow it.

If the Branded versions use the Same series of Code numbers,

then I think it should install with no problems,

but if the License-codes are of a different type or series,

then it may not.

I've been searching internet to find Info about Codes,

but so far No one seems to know ???

I may have to buy one to find out? :-?

Well, I found one guy that said that when installing Branded versions

you do Not type in the Key-code, like is done with retail version,

but it is possible to extract the code number after it is installed,

(using a Run-command-line utility)

but not all Branded versions will install on a PC that is not That brand.

Not all branded intalls are the same.

I think it's the HP version that will Not, but some Dell versions will install on any PC.

So, it appears that what I was going to do is possible, if you are careful which branded version you get???

I'm starting to think it's Not worth the Gamble, for the $50. saved per PC, though?

Although I need four codes which adds up to $200. total ???

Bill we love you Man, But:

Microsoft is charging way Too Much for W-7 retail version.

  • 2 weeks later...

The codes are the same type (25 didgits) and if they are retail will come with a large COA (Certificate of Authenticity) - Volume Licenses will be like the ones you get with a new PC and special ones Like Internal and Action Pack Software will have just an orange strip like these (I blurred out the product keys).
