Smart Defrag

Recommended Posts

It mainly depends on how much you use the computer and what it is used for?

Light use, with little movement of files, about once a month is enough.

With average use, I would say once a week is enough.

With heavy use, as if being used all day in a business enviroment, then maybe every few days.

Daily runs are Not necessary and bad for the Drives.

Hi pepsi!

Toppack is correct in that by his statement he reflects that some users over defrag their machines. I notice that you are running Puran as well.

You should understand that different defragmenters have different protocols. You can have defragmenters that fight against each other for file placement. What ends up happening is that you place unnecessary wear on your HD by "shuffling things around", contributing to premature HD failure.

There is a wealth of information on this thread concerning defragmentation. Though dated the concepts are pertinent.

Sincerely,

-Mel
