Is it safe to shutdown computer with smart defrag running?

Since it runs in the background I have shutdown my computer several times without turning it off.

While a very simple yes or no answer would suffice, I think it better to get you to think a little about your question.

If you have already turned off your computer several times while SD was running, and your computer still works

fine everytime after, does that not answer your question.

When you shut down your computer normally, using the shutdown command, your operating system first shuts down any running programs before

shutting itself down. However, if you do a hard shutdown, using the power button, to shut down your pc while programs are running, you could cause

serious damage to your system.
