  1. Thanks for that, but this makes me wonder: Why this setting is not enabled by default or as a recommended setting? Any reason for that? Any side effect?
  2. Hi Cicely, I'd like to further explore this option: If enabled the "Stop VSS when defragmenting NTFS volume" will Smart Defrag further optimize the NTFS HDDs? I'd like to get out of the most of Smart Defrag Thanks
  3. Hi. For what I can tell, ASC Ultimate has an anti-malware engine, so does Malware fighter (¿?) So, if a user has ASC ultimate, is there the need for having Malware Fighter? Or, if a user has ASC pro AND Malware Fighter, does the user needs to update ASC pro to ASC ultimate? It is very confusing and seems that ASC ultimate AND Malware fighter are redundant (ASC ultimate at the anti-malware engine) Isn't it the same as having ASC pro and Smart Defrag Pro? in which such users are encourage to disable the defragmentation module from ASC pro in order to have Smart Defrag do all the HDD defrag and optimize? I'd appreciate a detailed explanation from IObit about this concern Thanks!
  4. Hi Cicely, Can you pass the following suggestion to IObit?: When Smart Defrag is installed, to automatically disable windows built in defragmenter schedule, and if Smart Defrag is uninstalled that the uninstaller automatically re-enables windows built in defragmenter schedule. This to avoid having two defragmenters running and undoing defrag/optimization each other. I’m asking for this because by default when smart defrag is installed the windows defrag schedule is left intact and so it is executed and undo what smart defrag has achieved. And this to comply with the basic rule and principle: TO NOT HAVE TWO OR MORE DEFRAGMENTERS RUNNING SIMULTANEOUS Thanks
  5. Then, should iobit set SmartDefrag to disable windows built in scheduled defrag??? If not then many users will have two defragmenters fighting each other and windows HDDs will not be fully optimized
  6. It has been clear since the beginning, the main problem is that due to those different algorithms both programs will struggle each other and undo each other. That is why iobit MUST do that by default when smart defrag is installed it disables windows built in defrag schedule so that ALL fragmentation and optimization is handled by smart defrag. Don’t know why no more users are concerned about this when what is happening is that as of today, windows defrag undo what smart defrag has done. Hence no 100% smart defrag optimization is present
  7. HI, I received an email with the following information: I checked Windows Disk Defragmenter and the weekly defrag schedule was shown that was executed for ALL my HDD and EHDD betwen march 26 and march 27. and today iobit smartdefrag auto executed smart defrag So i went back to Windows Disk Defragmente and just analyzed the HDD and EHDD, and windows defrag shows that my C drive is 6% fragmented but iobit smartdefrag shows that this is ok with 0 fragments. The above statement is the escence of this thread, windows built in defrag has a different approach than iobit's smart defrag and so even that windows defrag may show that the HDD or EHDD are fragmented, acording to iobit's smart defrag THEY ARE NO! I know that I can manually disable the weekly windows built in defrag schedule, but the main concern here is: Should IOBIt make Smart Defrag installer to AUTOMATICALLY disable any windows built in schedule??? because by defaut, when SD is installed the windows built in defrag schedule is left utouched! I'd like to see a more complete and elaborate answer from IOBit staff about this, because as of today it seems that when windows built in defrag schedule is run, it UNDO what iobit SD has achieved.
  8. Hi, let me explain it in a simplier way: Consider the following which is true for ALL windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 default installations: Windows defragmenter is scheduled to run on a weekly basis. So now: 1) SD is installed and set to auto defrag all the HDD and EHDD 2) so SD in about 3 or 5 days have defragmented and optimized the disks. And perhaps also the user manually has triggered further optimizations using SD 3) days passs and the day where windows built in defragmenter is executed. So at this point, perhaps when windows defrag is executed it will defrag the disk drives in the way that windows thinks they are defragmented AND perhaps this is TOTALLY different from what SD does as “smart defrag” 4) so as soon as windows defrag finishes, all the progress and optimizations achieved by SD are totally undone and all the effort in those precious days is gone. 5) then SD AGAIN starts from zero (or almost zero) to defrag and optimize the disks. And so on... Hope this is clear now. I suppose that when SD is installed it should disable any windows defrag scheduled task.
  9. Yes. I checked that option in SD. But to my understanding this is just to launch SD when windows disk defrag is manually evoqued
  10. Hi Cicely, I suppose Smart Defrag has a different approach than windows defag. So the fact that SD when installed is NOT disabling windows defrag weekly schedule will probably generate the following: 1) SD is automatically defragmnenting and optimizing the HDDs 2) then when a week has passed the windows built in defrag is executed and so the windows approach in defrahmenting is performed 3) so at this point ALL what SD has defragmented and optimized will be partially or completely undone due to the weekly windows built in deftag 4) after windows weekly defrag is executed again SD will have to re-do what Windows defrag has undo Hope that now my point is fully understood Regards
  11. Hi, Sorry for resuscitating this thread, but I'm still concerned about why when SmartDefrag is installed, the WIndows built-in weekly defragmenter it NOT disbaled. I guess that Windows defrag works with a totally different approach than SmartDefrag, hence when Windows built in defragmenter weekly defrag is scheduled, ALL what was achieved with SmartDefrag will be undone and so Windows defrag and SmartDefrag will contnue to fight against each other on a weekly basis: WIndiows defrag undoing what SmartDefrag has achieved and then Smart Defrag undoing what Windows defrag has achieved. Please your further assistance and clarification with this.
  12. Hi, I clearly understand iotop suggestion and know how to do it, but my main concern here is not being addressed: The point here is that average users are unaware of this, so Windows built in defrag will remain scheduled to run once a week... so, in this scenario I guess that what is happening is: 1) Smart Defrag optimized & defrag the drives 2) then Windows Defrag is executed 3) and Smart defrag optimizations and defrag are undone So the result of this is that there are periods of time where the HDDs are not fully optimized, and this happens at least once a week and so on....

  14. Hi, I've posted this on another thread, but since I'm interested I'm also posting it here: Hi, would like to know if this offer is still valid/active? I currently own licenses for ASC and SD, but would like to get licenses for Iobit Uninstaller, Driver Booster and Iobit Malware Fighter. Thanks!

  16. Hi. I was wondering if Windows built-in weekly defrag schedule should be disabled or not. I've seen that after intsalling Smart Defrag, the default windows weekly defrag schedule remains untouched. I believe that windows scheduled defrga must be disabled, but then, why Smart Defrag doesn't disable it when installed? I guess that Windows Built in defragmenter will conflict with Smart Defrag, and perhaps what Smart Defrag have achieved in a week will be undo when Windows Defragmenter is exectuded by the weekly scheduled task. Iobit, can you further explain and clarify this?
  17. Hi, I was revising some threads and this has not been properly addressed, since there is no response from iobit staff. iobit staff, please answer and explain this, I always wants to get the most of my windows 10 and the most of your products
  18. About this parameter, the description read as follows: "It will temporary stop VSS when defragmenting to protect your current VSS backup and your VSS after the defrag is completed" But what are the CONS and PROS? I guess that if enabled, the HDD can be further optimized and defraged, but the VSS will get compromised/corrupted and if disabled, the VSS will remain intact but the HDD will not be 100% optimized & defraged Please clarify Thanks
  19. This suggestion can be applied directly to ASC or to Smart Defrag. Also can be implemented in both programs as a PRO feature and if a user has ASC and Smart Defrag PRO, then that the programs allows to select the user at which program to disable this module. HDD & EHDD S.M.A.R.T. & Health monitoring Currently both programs lack this feature, SD has implemented a basic S.M.A.R.T. checkup for version 5.1.0, but what is really needed is a realtime S.M.A.R.T. & Health monitoring feature with the following features: Standard features (like similar programs): 1) To constantly monitor at a user defined interval the S.M.A.R.T. & Health of ALL the HDD (including EHDD) and also SSDs (And if possible USB Flash and Memory Cards). Also the program can have a default interval (for example, every 12 hours) 2) Send alerts based on parameters that are away from the standard and normal values. Also being able to send alerts by email 3) If a disk checkup is needed, to schedule one at next system boot (user can also disable this or start this manually) 4) do a disk checkup: basic and complete (including surface scan, search of bad sectors, etc) Key features that will differentiate ASC & SD from similar programs: 5) Allow the user to define a cloud based service to store the logs and history of each HDD, for example Dropbox, OneDrive, MediaFire, etc. Also to save at this folder the module settings. Why this? so when the user reinstall windows the module monitoring history and settings can be restored and continue to be backed up. This feature needs a seamless integration with the cloud service, so that this feature is executed automatically at a given interval without user intervention (only when reinstalling windows and linking again this module with the cloud service). 6) This module monitoring history can be used to further enhance the HDD S.M.A.R.T. & Health monitoring, like adding enhanced features that currently S.M.A.R.T doesn´t support (lhistory of surface scans, times the checkupdisk has been executed and detailed info, etc.) 7) by the above feature, this module can give a more detailed status based on the additional interpretations if those additional historical parameters Hope this module and features are implemented for both programs
  20. Hi Edward. Now I have installed SD5 pro. So far so good
  21. Hi Cicely. Currently I don't have a way to test Smart Defrag v5 and since my Windows 10 laptop is working pretty good with ASC pro 9 and SD 4 pro, I don't want to uninstall SD 4 pro. Let me see If I'm able to manage to test this on a virtual machine or on another computer, will keep you informed. Thanks
  22. Hi. After using SD 4 PRO for several days, I've noticed the following: SD doesn't remember the setting for USB Flash drives, for example I've set for one USB drive that SD recognizes it as SSD and activated the checkmark so that SD automatically trim my USB flash, but after removing the media and inserting it again, SD again detects it as HDD and the checkmark is disabled. I guess SD should remember every removable media setting
  23. Hi. One feature that was amazing from iolo's System Mechanic, was the "Program Accelerator", it used to work quite good with System Mechanic versions 12 and 14 (it was totally screwed in 15 and 15.5): Basically this "approach" is to identify a program and all it's dependencies (DLLs, Exes, etc) and align them together, so the program will launch faster. I don't know why this amazing feature, was left behind in System Mechanic 15 and 15.5, the feature is still there but now it's not working as it used to be. Maybe Iobit can work a similar approach?
