  1. Don't know if anyone has previously suggested this but I would like to have an option under Scan Settings to have the GUI automaticlly close after a scan is completed if no malware has been found during the scan. I hate unlocking my computers and seeing the GUI there and then having to close it when there has been no malware found during the scan.
  2. Right now IMF only offers an annual license subscription. That is fine. However, I would like to see an option to purchase a lifetime subscription for an additional amount. Right now I can renew IMF for one year for $19.95. I would like to have the option to also be able to purchase a lifetime subscripiton to IMF for say $39.95. So if I were to renew now I could purchase a lifetime subscription for $19.95 + $39.95 or $59.90.
  3. 1. While you can do selective backup it appears you cannot do a selective restore. It would be nice to be able to do selective restores from the backup folder 2. It would also be nice if a user could override the default backup file name and assign their own name to the backup. For example if I choose to backup just Firefox it would be nice if I could name that backup Firefox xx/xx/xxxx. This way if I want to do a restore of just Firefox I will know which file to restore without having to rename the backed up file in Windows Explorer. Now I do realize that this is a transfer program designed to be able to transfer files to another computer. However even in that case a user may not want to transfer all backed up files I do have a question. Does the Firefox backup include installed Firefox extensions and passwords? Thanks
  4. Just in passing. My computer seems more responsive using Smart Defrag 3 Beta:-) than using Smart Defrag 2 or the Windows Defrag feature.
  5. Click on the Windows Control Panel. Type in "Defrag". Click on "Defragment and optimize your drives" One click is sufficient. The next sceen may take a bit to open. After it opens click on "Change Settings" A new screen will open. On the newly opened screen to the right of the word Drives click on "Choose" A new screen will open listing your computers drive letters. I am referrng to the boxes to the left of each drive letter. When they are checked you are telling Windows to use the Windows Defrag feature to defrag each drive with a check in the box to the left of the drive letter. It is those boxes that Smart Defrag should auto uncheck when you install Smart Defrag and during install say yes to replace Windows Defrag with Smart Defrag.
  6. Don't know if this has been mentioned. However the option to replace the Windows defrag feature leaves the Windows Defrag feature with all the Drive boxes checked. I would think it would be better to remove the checks next to the Drive letter in Windows Defrag. The Windows Defrag schedule has no box to uncheck but the Drives do. Smart Defrag should uncheck all the Drive boxes when a user chooses to replace the Windows Defrag feature with Smart Defrag. Alternatively Smart Defrag could grey the boxes out when a user chooses to replace Windows Defrag with Smart Defrag.
  7. Thanks for you feedback. I never used Fast Optimize in 2.x since Full Optimize was not that slow:lol: I only tried Fast Optimize in 3.0 Beta 1 because Full Optimize is slower than than it was in 2.x as you pointed out. On computers with a high end CPU and faster read write HDD the Full Optimize of an internal drive is not too bad. However, the Full Optimize of an older external HDD running on USB 2.0 is awfully slow. Fortunately for me it is not something I have to worry too much about as my external HDD's are used either for backup. (No need to defrag that) or for archiving so the need to defrag and zero over deleted files on my computers' external HDDs is not very much for me. However for those who use an external USB 2.0 HDD for more active files the Full Optimize could be problem.
  8. A number of things 1. Appears to work on W7, W8 and W8.1. 2. Installs in its own folder. So you can apparently keep Smart Defrag 2 and it will run if you install Smart Defrag 3 Beta. 3. If you have Smart Defrag 2.x on your computer and are not using the latest version Smart Defrag 3 Beta will create a pop-up message telling you that you need to update Smart Defrag 2 4. If you uninstall Smart Defrag 2 using the IObit Uninstaller version 3 it leaves a bunch of Smart Defrag 2 files and even a Smart Defrag 2 folder on your computer. If you do not delete these files, do not reboot and IObit releases a newer version of Smart Defrag 2 you will get the pop-up indicating there is a newer version of Smart Defrag 2. To avoid this you need to manually go in and delete all Smart Defrag 2 folders and files, then reboot. 5. Speed appears okay on internal HDD. A bit slow but I can live with that. 6. Speed on external USB HDD of 1.5 GB or more is extrememly slow even if only 50% or less of HDD is used. I don't recall if any of my computers' external USB HDD are using USB 3.0 or not. In any case even just Defrag is extremely slow. A Defrag and Optimize either Fast of Full is ungodly slow. 7. Very little CPU is used on later computers with a faster CPU. Under 1% when defragging an external USB HDD. This could account for the very slow defrag speed. 8. I haven't tried running the Defrag on W8 Folders That is all I have for now.
  9. Resizing app GUI windows uses RAM. A lot of resizing uses a lot of RAM. Should never be done on x32 computers.
  10. Some more info. I did a complete Deep Scan it showed that the Registry needed to be defragged. I reran Registry Defrag by itself and did not show that the Registry needed to be defragged. I ran DiskMax and then PrivaZer. I then ran a complete Deep Scan and again it did not show that the Registry needed to be defragged. I then rebooted and ASC 7 Pro performed a registry defrag which was not indicated on the second and third Registry Defrag scans but only the first. The reboot after the Registry Defrag took a while. The next step is to not use DiskMax and PrivaZer for a couple of days and see if ASC Pro 7 still indicates a Registry Defrag needs to be done. I will try and do this on days that I do not install any new sofwware, update software or unistall software. I use IObit Uninstaller 3 to do my software uninstalls I hope I remember to do this. If I do I will get back with the results. P.S. Both computes are using W8.1
  11. XP Pro SP3 and IE8 is a very insecure combination. ASC 7 Pro has a number of functions that help make a computer safer. The fact that it is running in an insecure environment might require it do more checking for malware before allowing IE8 (very insecure) to load. It amazes me that so many people continue to use out of date software and expose their computers to an excessive amounts of Malware. I can understand people using XP Pro SP3 as an upgrade to W7 or W8.x would most likely require a new computer which is for some a sizeable expenditure. However, there is no excuse for using IE8. Firefox with the proper extensions is the most secure Windows browser even more so than IE11 despite the propaganda coming from Microsoft. Chrome is fair if you don't mind being subject to Google's privacy invasion techniques.
  12. Possible bug in "Registry Defrag" I run a Deep Clean once a day on my two main computers. One I use in the morning and the other the rest of the day. Anyway I am noticing that after running the Deep Clearn that ASC 7 Pro is saying that a Registry Defrag needs to be run. This happens almost every day on both computers even when all I do on either one is surf the internet. No file downloads, No program installs, just surf the internet using Firefox. I then reboot and ASC 7 Pro performs the Registry Defrag. I got tired of seeing this so I thought I would try something. I run the Deep Clean as usual when I am done using either computer for the day. The Deep Clean says I need to reboot to do a Resgistry Defrag. I then run only the Registry Defrag option in Deep Clean and it comes up clean not showing that I need to reboot to do Registry Defrag. What I haven't done yet is to then reboot to see if ASC still does a Registry Defgrag as it says it would on the first pass of running Registry Defrag even though the second pass says none is needed. In any case I think this may be a bug since Deep Clean Registry Defgrag is calling for Registry Defrag even though I have only surfed the Net for few hours after doing the previous Registry Defrag. I do use DiskMax and Privazer after running ASC Pro Deep Clean as my final two clean up steps on my computers. However, as far as I know neither one of those programs touches the Windows Registry. I will look into this further to see if I can be a bit more precise in my description of what occurs when with regard to this.
  13. SSDs should not be defragmented for the reason stated above and because data is not intentionally written sequentially on any drive. On a HDD drive because of the moving parts it is good idea to defrag files in order to put the entire file together on the HDD. This speeds up reading of and writing to the file. However since there are no moving parts on a SSD drive no benefit is gained by defragmenting it and defragmenting a SSD wears it out as pointed out by @Scannan. There is however benefit gained by using the "TRIM" command that is avialable with most SSDs. If your SSD does not have that function one can use a third party app to "TRIM" the SSD Understanding SSDs: the need for TRIM, overprovisioning, and more
  14. Good idea. If I try it I will try and remember to post back about the result. See my post above as to why my original post on this was more informational than a concern to me.
  15. I only login multiple simultaneous multiple users on my W8 computer. It is a sometimes thing. Mostly just to update some Metro apps and check around in the Windows Store to see if W8.1 is showing up yet on that computer. That is another problem alltogether.:-) So next time I have occassion to have mutliple users logged in on that computer I will try and remember to check.
  16. Problem with multiple users on W8. When multiple users are logged in IMF Pro only shows on the desktop of the first logged in user. It will not show on the desktop of the second logged in user. If I go the IObit IMF Pro folder and click the program *.exe file while I am at the desktop of the second logged in user the IMF Pro GUI pops up on the destktop of the first logged in user. If I log out of the first user then IMF Pro will show on the desktop of the second logged in user.
  17. Two thumbs up on now being to manually add items of one's own choice to the "Ignore List." I suggest people use this new feature conservatively:!:
  18. Good ideas but I think you mean "Process Ender":-). However, with this one should note that with some programs when you close them you definitely do not want to deactivate or end all of their processes. This would be helpful though for "advanced users" Speeding up the fans would be good provided that increasing the speed of the fans did not lead to component failure. For example there is a fan attached to the heat sink. If you try to speed the fan up beyond what it is designed for it could ruin the computer's heat sink and power supply. I would be happy with a hard drive and CPU temperature monitor. Especially helpful for those that like to overclock their computers.
  19. During the installation process it would be nice to add a check box for "Add Icon To Desktop". This would be especially helpful when you are updating from say v2.1 to v2.2. There should be no need to create a new icon since the updated files are in the same folder.
  20. That has not been my experience. I have and am using software that will delete the old folder if needed when it installs the new version of the software. Most software does not have a seperate folder for each version of the software. When a new version is installed it is installed in the old directory and the update removes all the appropriate files from old version. IMO that is the preferrred method of handling it. Creating a seperate parent folder for each version creates more more problems than needed with an update. Even Windows doesn't create a seperate folder for Windows when you update from W7 to W8 and W8 to W8.1. What it does is move all the old no longer used Windows files to a root folder off the C drive named "Old Windows" With Windows 8.1 upgrade Windows Clean Manager will delete that folder and its files.
  21. Double post but there has been no response to my original post so I will try again here. I use BD W8 Security (boo) as opposed to ASC Ultimate (applause) on three computers. Two are running W8.1 and one is running W8. I just disabled "autorun" on all three computers using BD W8 Security. When I used BD W8 Security to disable "autorun" on the W8 computer IMF Pro gave me a popup message asking if I wanted to allow or block a change to my startup programs. I clicked allow. When I used BD W8 security to disable "autorun" on my two W8.1 computers I did not get a popup from IMF Pro. If fact come to think of it I don't recall seeing any IMF popup to allow or block on my two W8.1 computers since I upgraded those two computers to W8.1 about a week ago. Now it could be that I have not done anything on those two computers before disabling "autorun" that would have generated a popup if the actions were done on W8. However, that seems unlikely since I have installed a number of programs after IMF 2.0 Pro was running on W8.1. My IMF Pro "Protect" settings are identical on all three computers, DOG is turned on and Protect is set to the recommended level.
  22. The installation confused me when it got to the point where it said "You have to uninstall a previous version" or something like that. The only option at that point is to close the GUI or click okay or whatever it said. When I clicked okay it finished the installation but didn't remove all the ASC 6 folders/files. When I read the message based upon experience with updating other software I thought it was just telling me that if I proceeded to install ASC 7 all previous versions would be completely uninstalled by the installer. This was obviously not the case. So I wound up uninstalling ASC 7 using the IObit uninstaller then reinstalled V6, then uninstalled V6 using the IObit installer and then reinstalled V7. All the ASC 6 folders/files are now gone at least under Program Files (x86). As far as CNET goes. I will have to use ASC 7 for a while and then I will think about it.
  23. Left Over Folders From Prior Versions The installation of ASC 7 does not remove all the old folders/files from ASC 6. This has been a long time problem rarely talked about on this forum. New installations of ASC do not completely remove old installations and eventually this has caused problems as I have posted about before. I remember when I originally installed ASC 6 and after the install there were still folders from ASC 4 and ASC 5. IObit really needs to fix this. ASC should just install in a generic ASC folder under the IObit folder and remove all the unneeded files from a previous release.
