  1. Actually I have been using avast! AIS for a few years and have never found it a drain on my computers' resources. I run both avast! AIS 7 and now ASCU Beta 1 together on three computers and none of three are showing a drain on resources due to either product. Then again we all have different computers and differernt software on them, so are experience may vary. As far as virus identification and blocking ASCU uses the Bitdefender engine and Bitdefender has been shown to do better than avast! in comparative AV studies. Having said that since my computers have no Malware problems that I know of and believe me I more than double check, I will stay with my current setup. I think both products are very good and that is why I use them. The fact that they work together without any problem including resouces drain is just a big plus:-)
  2. I think it was a Trojan. It could have made a second copy or a trace. Just to be safe I just deleted all traces on that logical drive using Revo Uninstaller (Sorry I am more comfortable using that program for deleting traces) The other questions are 1. Is ASCU able to quarantine something avast! can't because the file is in use by a process and avast! can't quarantine malware in use by a process? 2. or Did ASCU give a false delete message? 3. or Did the file recreate itself after I deleted it while it was in ASCU Quarantine because the file was attached to a running process? 4. Was what avast! found a trace remnant that the ASCU quarantine process left in place at the Malware's original location? Here is the log file It appears that this Trojan was first discovered in Jan 2010 and was fairly active at least through Dec 2011. Its progated through video files which is consistent with what I was downloading at the time in eMule. After the part of the file in question was Quarantined and deleted all the othe downloaded parts of the file that contained the Trojan appear to have been deleted. From Avira - It looks pretty nasty I am not overly concerned about it at this point since avast! found it and I know it scans all downloaded files once they are complete. I am just surprised that the trojan got into the temp directory and was not identified during the download and automatically blocked or quarantined.
  3. I just ran a complete Scan and ASCU identified once piece of Malware. I moved it to Quarantine. I researached the Malware and decided it was safe to delete from Quarantine. I deleted it or so I thought. Quarantine showed empty. I did a follow-up scan with avast! AIS 7 on that directory about 10 seconds after deleting? it in ASCU. avast! AIS 7 found that same Malware and I asked it be moved to Quarantine. avast! said it could not move it becasue the file was in use by another process. I ended that process and avast! was able to move it to Quarantine from where I deleted it. I then rescanned the directory in question with ASCU and avast! along with Malwarebytes. The directory came up clean. Now it could be that what avast! found was just a trace of the Malware which ASCU left. This gets into an area outside my pay grade.:-)
  4. If you sense your computer system is dragging and would like to speed it up a bit you can disable Windows Defender by going into Local Services and disabling Windows Defender. I am not suggesting that you disable Windows Defender so please don't take it that way. I am just saying if you would like your system to perform a little better you can do so by disabling Windows Defender. Leaving it enabled will not make your system less secure and could make it more secure. When I was running W7-SP1 with only 2GB of RAM I disabled Windows Defender and it helped the computer's performance. Now that I have 8GB of RAM a PCI Express Graphics Card with .5GM RAM and am also using Windows "ReadyBoost" I have Windows Defender eanbled.
  5. I was able to install ASCU Beta over ASC w AV and ASCU accepted my license but the install became corrupted as a result of installing ASCU Beta over ASC w AV. Installing ASCU Beta on a computer with ASC w AV will not remove ASC w AV and all the ASC w AV directories and/or files. My suggestion is to first uninstall ASC Pro or ASC w AV depending on which program you are using. Clean up all your directories that may remain for ASC Pro (any version) and/or ASC w AV. Then do a clean install of ASCU Beta and enter you license code for ASC w AV if it needs it to be manually entered into ASCU after uninstalling ASC w AV or ASC Pro.
  6. Optimization features in programs like ASCU are not so straight forward. For example, I have a small three computer network at home. The ASCU optimizaton feature was killing the network communications among the three computers by disabling several Windows 7-SP1 "Local Services" Once I figured out what the problem was; i.e. which Local Servcies the optimization was disabling I just told it to ignore its recommendations. After that my network communications among the three computers returned to normal. ISTM that when the optimization feature recommends a change to your computer you really need to look at each recommended change to decide whether or not to allow it or not. If you tell ASCU to ignore a recommended change ASCU optimization will not recommend that change again. Clearly the default optimization recommendations by ASCU are based upon some generic this is whats best for your computer. However, we all use are computers differently so you may not want to go with the recommended optimizaton features since they are not consistent with how you like to have your computer set up. Optimizing a computer almost always involves some trade off. Usually it involves giving up some feature in Windows in order to improve performance. However, many times people don't want to give up using that feature and would rather keep it even if it means that the performance of their computer suffers somewhat. For example, in my case is I never use the Windows Search feature. I always disable it since I found the drag on my computers' perfromance when it is indexing is not worth the search benefit for me. However, my guess is that most people leave the Windows Search feature enabled. I also disable the Windows Media services since I have no use for them. In the past I would disable Windows Defender in W7. However, now that my computers have a bit more memory I have chosen to leave it enabled even though I could probably get along just fine by diabling it again like I had in the past.
  7. Smart RAM W7-SP1 x64 All Smart RAM radio buttons are clicked. As I recall and I could be wrong about this but when I was Using ASC Pro Smart RAM did not auto clean memory or at least all the memory that it could. So every once in a while I would click on it and then click on Go--->Smart Clean and it would clean anywhere from 150MB to 350MB of memory. I would do this maybe two or three times a day. With ASC w AV clicking on Go---->Smart Clean freed hardly any memory Now with ASCU Smart RAM is functioning like it did with ASC Pro. Now one would think based upon the above that Smart RAM in ASC w AV maybe wasn't working properly. However, I constantly watch my RAM availability even though I know the number is not 100% accurate. I can say almost unequivocally that the amount of available memory when I was using ASC w AV did not go down like it did when I was using ASC Pro and now ASCU. So ISTM that the Smart Free and Auto Free freatures in Smart RAM were working better and correctly with ASC w AV as opposed to ASC Pro and ASCU both of which require a two or three times a day clicking on Smart Clean to free up memory that appeared to be auto freed by Smart RAM in ASC w AV. Not a big deal. Just another inconvience like having to leave ASCU to do a restart in order to Defrag the Registry. However in this case of Smart RAM it is a lot more inconvienent because it requires more trouble and effort to manually do what the program should do becauase it needs to be done two to three times a day whereas Defragging the Registry was required every several days or more depending on program updates, insalls and uninstalls.
  8. Right click on a file in Windows Explorer (W7-SP1 x64) does not show any IObit product options except for IMF. No ASC product of any kind is now listed as a scan option or any other option when I right click a file name while in Windows Explorer.
  9. Here is the link to the Some Observations thread. If the moderator would like to close the "Some Observations"thread to future posts we can continue our discussion of ASCU on this thread as suggested:-)
  10. Just sent my first ASCU suggestion to "avfeedback" I would like to see ASCU add the ability to save multiple scheduled scans, like a Quick Scan daily and a Full Scan once a week.
  11. "Additional Options" during install. I understand the reason that many software companies have added "additional options" as Enoskype refers to them, in the installer and install process. However, ISTM that there could be another option to placing these "additional options" in the installer which may prove better for IObit and better for their customers. Here is my suggestion. 1. Remove "additional options" from the installation process. This will IMO make the majority of IObit customers happier. 2. Add an "additional options" feature in the Toolbox or somewhere on the ASC main GUI in a way that it doesn't clutter the GUI. 3. When a user clicks on "additional options" this will take them to a ASC GUI listing links to a webpage of each of the "additional options", preferably a web page that explains what the "additional option is" and a link to install it. This should reduce the size of the ASC installer and enable ASC to install faster. IObit could theoretically add an unlimited number of "additional options" links in the "additional options" GUI. This would give the ASC user more choices of "additional options" without gunking up the ASC installer. In fact I would even go so far as to say that I would be okay with ASC installing a "pop-up" for the "additional options" GUI that the user could stop by going to the "Settings". While I am not a fan of "pop-ups" as long the user could turn it off in the "Settings" I would be okay with it. Just a thought8:)
  12. Thanks. That is what I get for not reading the help manual:lol:
  13. Scan Options I like the "Select All" option. I would like to see a "Select None" option added. The reason is because occasionally I want to use only one or two scan options. It doesn't happen very often so this is no biggie but it would make the use of ASC easier.
  14. I use the Pro Version of ASC and right now 5 Beta 2.1 I think it is a great program and worth every penny and dollar:-)
  15. Don't know if this was previously suggested or not. Under Scheduling Scans Allow for setting a unique "Action" and "Schedule" for each "Drive"
