Basically, I un-checked Disk Optimization from the list of things to do, then ran the scan. That made it work. But that begs the question: How come Disk Optimization is causing the lockup? I was forced to Go into Task Manager and End task from the processor tree. The OS is Windows 8.1 Pro, on a Duo Core processor. I even tried running it on both Administrator and Windows 8 compatible mode, but to no avail.
