  1. ....but back to the question of the thread here.  I suspect the most updated program is going to be Malware Defender, since new threats are surfacing on a weekly, even daily basis, ...as well as "definitions" are constantly needing to be updated multiple times daily.  That would be followed by Driver Booster, as it needs to constantly update it's list of driver's to update.  As far as the one needing to "be" updated the most as far as functionality or just to make even better, ....I would say Driver Booster.

  2. I can also confirm that "Misleading:Win32/Lodi" is detected by Microsoft Defender, and not only in Smart Defrag.  It also caught it again in Iobit Uninstaller.  It dsoesn't appear to be malicious, but (more importantly), quarantining (removing) it doesn't seem to hurt the programs, although it will reinstall after rebooting, and Defender will scan and catch it over and over again.

Microsoft Defender seems to be the only scanner picking it up.  My Malwarebytes isn't detecting it.  Neither does AVTotal.  It doesn't excuse Iobit from their overt use of executable adware files.

So far, the file has "not" shown up in either ASC or Driver Booster, which I am very happy about, since those are the two main Iobit programs I use.  I also have iTop Screen Recorder Pro, and it hasn't shown up in there either.

  3. I can also confirm that "Misleading:Win32/Lodi" is detected by Microsoft Defender, and not only in Smart Defrag.  It also caught it again in Iobit Uninstaller.  It dsoesn't appear to be malicious, but (more importantly, quarantining (removing) it doesn't seem to hurt the programs, although it will reinstall after rebooting and Defender will scan and catch it over and over again.

Microsoft Defender seems to be the only scanner picking it up.  My Malwarebytes isn't detecting it.  Neither does AVTotal.  However, that doesn't excuse Iobit and their partners from their overt use of executable adware files.

  4. The detected file "Misleading:Win32/Lodi" is not just found in iTOP product container files, but in other Iobit products as well.  My Microsoft Defender found it twice, ...in Iobit Uninstaller and Smart Defrag more than a month ago.  So this is not actually an iTop or partner issue here.  It is found in core Iobit products, and even though Mountainman may have had scanned and found it within iTOP, the "Misleading:Win32/Lodi" issue is also an issue within the scope of Iobit.

Interestingly enough though, Microsoft Defender seems to be the only scanner picking it up.  My Malwarebytes isn't detecting it.  Neither does AVTotal.  It doesn't excuse Iobit from their overt use of executable adware files, but considering the court case with Malwarebytes years ago, and the hostility Microsoft has with Iobit products, could be there is something else going on at play here, just saying.  I've read articles on their own blogs where Microsoft absolutely "bashes" Iobit and warns people to remove all their products.  Funny that statement is coming from one of the "big three" that has probably collected more information on people than all the other small companies combined.  It's like "big brother" scolding a child for playing with firecrackers....lol.  It is what it is.

  5. Hope you get whatever happened to you resolved. I know I've been frustrated in the past all of a sudden I see a charge on my card for a certain amount that I was unaware of. It's certainly happened to me with IObit Auto renewals in the past, but in truth it's happened with pretty much a lot of stuff I have bought and forgotten about on other sites. It's a standard marketing thing I guess, and the key of course is just making sure you "uncheck" the 'enroll in auto renewal' checkbox before you purchase the product. Auto renewal is usually always checked or selected as a "default".

Not trying to market another product, but I use an online card-masking service called Privacy.com for my online transactions and renewals, and allows you to set charge-limits per transaction, per month, or per year for each card.  It's good online payment security.

  6. I had tried Software Updater.  It is the only Iobit product I don't want to use nor have any interest in.  But, it's not because it's not good at updating software.  It is good at that and does it well for the most part, and ...I like the software list it has of selected software to download and install directly from the program.

The problem with Software Updater, and with several of the other Iobit products, ...is that they are terrible at updating "their own selves", and even when you try to "manually" check for updates within the program, it tells you there are none (EX: "Hooray! Your software is Up to Date!") when there is clearly a newer release on the Iobit website.  I'm referring to if it updates from (example) 8.1 to 8.2, which I consider major updates.  Even now, I still go to the Iobit website to check to see if there are any updates, because the programs themselves do not "see" them when you try to update within the program.

  7. After a lot of research, it was interesting to find out the corporate battles that took place between certain companies.  Even today, there are still people out there that believe that a PUP file is an actual file with the file extention .pup (of all things).  A PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) file really is defined by those who "want to define" them as such.  The usual reason they get defined this way, ...is that these programs do certain things behind people's backs or without their knowledge, such as install 3rd party software or "bundleware" without your knowledge or consent, while others will constantly bombard you with advertisements, pop-ups, or even open up a separate browser window or tab to take you to other sites when you are using their software.

Iobit has historically walked a fine-line when it comes to this, not actually going over the edge into the PUP world, but in being sly enough to pull out the stops when it comes to pop-up ads and coercing people into installing stuff from their partners and supporting vendors (if you don't pay attention during installation their products).

That doesn't mean the products aren't good.  I love their products.  But it does mean that in order to make things work, you have to go in and adjust program settings, and also stay wise to the fact that Iobit can get you to install something without your awareness if you don't pay enough attention to what you click on or during their product installs.

Every company has their own issues.  It's funny, I probably hate Malwarebytes way more than I get aggravated with Iobit.  Years ago, Malwarebytes was notorius for "taking-over" your computer and doing whatever it wanted to in the name and sake of protection, and I've seen a lot of other antivirus/malware software follow the same path.  Funny, because I eventually went back to using Malwarebytes since they fixed things and "toned-down".  I guess enough people screamed and complained to them about it.  People want to use Malwarebytes because they have a good effective product and a reputation for getting 98% of the bad stuff, but sometimes ...it can be too aggressive, and definitely does make mistakes and quarantine stuff it shouldn't.

Unfortunately Malwarebytes and Iobit apparently had it out, including a court case.  So even if Iobit has had a little bit of reputation of being "PUP" like, there is definitely something else in the air when it comes to these two companies.

It's 2022 now.  I did look at Malwarebytes latest offering and saw they fixed some things and toned down.  It is very easy now to do a custom full /C: scan, let it catch all the Iobit files it "thinks" are PUP files, and then make the proper selections to have Malwarebytes "ignore" those files permanently.  You can also choose to white-list any files/programs as well (in the "Allow" list).  I personally am now running Iobit programs and Malwarebytes together side-by-side perfectly now with no problems yet.

  8. When I first bought ASC in 2006, I bought it as a utility/cleaner replacement for iolo System Mechanic, and I was impressed with ASC.  System Mechanic was a great product except for one "little" problem.  Every now and then, it would screw up the registry, and I would have to "revert" back to the prior restoration-point (at least it had "that" option).  However, I have "never" had any problems in 16 years with ASC messing up registries/registry files, ...seems to be one of the strong points of ASC.  I agree with you, "makes a reasonable effort, without being too aggressive, and removing stuff it shouldn't".  I know many people who use ASC just because of how well it treats the registry.

I know there is an ongoing controversy concerning cleaning or maintenancing registry.  I do agree with the experts in that it is not something that needs to be done all the time, ...and where we actually "needed" to fix or clean it in the old days (when Windows really sucked), it's not so necessary to run these days. Yet, ...it still needs to be maintained occasionally.  I really couldn't even imagine never maintaining registry at all ever during the lifetime of a computer (like so many of these so-called experts tell us constantly).

  9. I'm not a moderator/staff member, but I can tell you that it "used" to be offered in the "Action Centers" in all the Iobit software products, but I do not see it in there anymore.  Looks like it has been replaced with iTop Data Recovery.  However, I know it "is" on the list of recommended software on Iobit's Software Updater program.  Aomei is a great product, especially for cloning drives.  You can install the free version via the Iobit Software Updater program or get it directly from their own website.

  10. I have used Iobit products ongoing since 2006 when they were just first starting. Sure there have been a lot of ups/downs over the past decade and a half.  Nothing is perfect, but I can tell you ...as a utility, ASC put iolo System Mechanic and Wise Registry cleaner/repair to shame over that time.  One of the best things I like about ASC is that, in 16 years, it has never destroyed, messed up, or corrupted my computers....ever.  I have always seen a performance boost, and Smart Defrag is the best optimizer I've ever used with HDDs.  On the flip-side, I will admit I have had my huge frustrations with Driver Booster and Uninstaller over the years though, but both have improved.

Concerning Iobit products in general, I wish to bring up TWO Important Points from a veteran user (myself).  It made a difference and my decision to keep using their products.

The first is ....Learn the Product, read the online instructions, learn how to "Install" it (carefully and slowly) reading "everything" in the windows & making the appropriate selections (opting-out of 3rd party extras) ...and then go the next step: ...use, experiment and learn everything it is actually capable of (including what is "not" covered in their documentation) and you will be surprised.  Most people want an "install and go" solution, and Iobit loves to advertise and use somewhat-forceful tactics to promote their partners and 3rd-party software offerings.  But ...you CAN CONTROL THIS, as well as tweaking everything to work the way you want, and even find features you didn't understand fully or even know about.  I have learned how, and I have no problems whatsoever.  I've used enough software that attempted to "take-over" or control my computer without giving me any options whatsoever.  At least I can say I have taken the effort to learn to "control" Iobit programs to do what I want or expect.

The second is, ...is Iobit trustworthy?  Has their reputation been trashed as being classified by other programs and cyber-security companies as PUPs?  Is your computer, information and data really safe?  I cannot say for sure.  Many companies promise that it is, and I can at least say my experience with Iobit over the years has been good. ...But if you think you are any safer with Microsoft, Google, or any other so-called "reputable" company out there, you might want to think that one through again.  Most online companies make a large part of money by selling data, trends, and even the personal info you allow or agree to, as well as some you aren't aware you agreed to.  It really is part of the business game.

What I don't like, ...is Iobit's use of 3rd party partners in handling, reselling, and billing of their own core programs.  Make sure you manually download Iobit products "only" directly from the Iobit site or from the Major Geeks site, and from no where else, nor from any hyperlinks in email or other sites.

Finally, it is always wise to use or run more than one.  I use and run Malwarebytes and Defender as my alternate security programs side-by-side with Iobit, and yes, I had to white-list some Iobit files, but they run great together and (as I said), no problems.

  11. Apologies if it seems I was blasting a moderator. That was really not my intentional here. However, in the general sense, I am saying that I thought it strange that both the Iobit website and the forum were silent about the issue after 48 hours, ...meaning, no news or notifications to the customers. ...and if Iobit really was truly "unaware" of the issue, that would seem pretty bad to me. ...because this is not some issue randomly affecting a few select users. This is an instant pop-up notification that had to appear on everybody's phones, so everyone knows about it. Those I know that use AMC got it as well, at the same time.

...so apologies Scannan, but I do consider this issue serious enough to actually create a new forum-account here and log-on to speak my mind. I know it is a potential "bomb" for AMC Security (pending how this turns out). As someone stated on the Facebook page, you have to wonder how long Iobit has allowed their product(s) to run possibly utilizing a partnering company's compromising code/libraries (if that truly is the case here). I know Iobit has a very good loyal user base (hey, I have been one of them), but as I stated, this situation is serious and I hope they handle it properly.

  12. A security app that gets blacklisted....

This is pretty serious. I have the Pro version which I pay for with a subscription in the fall of every year. Was going to renew this, and now finding out that it has been "blacklisted" by Google Play. It doesn't even "exist" anymore on Google Play. I went ahead and did the uninstall.

...wondering why Iobit didn't get and/or respond to any notification or communication from Google? How did it get this far that the app was blacklisted before Iobit could fix the problem? ….and how will Iobit handle this problem in the upcoming days ahead for all of their subscribers who have "paid" for their Pro version?

This isn't a rant from some new customer. I have been a loyal user of Iobit computer products since 2006 and of AMC Security since 2014. Your facebook page is now saying to stand-firm, trust you and to "keep the app on your phone" (the opposite of what Google is telling us to do). The Iobit website is "silent" and admins/moderators of this forum do not seem to be taking this seriously enough. I think Iobit needs to treat this situation as a 5-alarm defcon-2 scenario before they lose their customer-base (week-end or not) and definitely keep their users & subscribers informed in detail on exactly what has happened and why, and how the situation will get resolved.

I know "crap" can happen, especially with companies you partner with, and I hope this resolves OK. A thought to keep in mind is, ...what if this happened to "McAfee"...

Truthfully, I don't trust Google either. I trust them even less (because of their size and role as the "monopoly" on most of the information on the planet), but in this case, they also hold the monopoly on app installation with Google Play.
