  3. The manual Lotus Notes migration process has four steps: NSF database files backup for Lotus Notes Creation of new user mailboxes in Office 365 Configuration of IMAP connections (TCP/IP ports) for the user accounts Synchronize emails from Lotus Notes to Office 365 via an IMAP connection Begin the migration process by following the steps below: Perform a Lotus Notes Backup During migration, there are chances of things going wrong, so it makes sense to back up the data in your IBM Lotus Notes by backing up the NSF database files containing the information about users’ mailboxes. Backups are important because they provide a restore point (of sorts) that you can use if your migration process fails and the NSF files are corrupted. Create Mailboxes for Users on Office 365 You need to create a new mailbox for each user account that you are planning to migrate from Lotus Notes to Office 365. For the ease of cross-verification, ensure that all the details are the same between the Office 365 user profile and their Lotus Notes email client profiles. Enable the IMAP Ports for Users The IBM Lotus Notes to Office 365 manual migration takes place through the IMAP protocol, so you need to enable the TCP/IP ports for all users whose mailboxes are to be migrated to Office 365. To do this, follow the steps given: Navigate to the ‘Domino Administrator’ tab in your Lotus Notes Click on the ‘Configuration’ tab in ‘Domino Administrator’ Choose the appropriate Server file (or document) Go to ‘Ports’ tab, then ‘Internet Ports’ and then ‘Mail’ Change the ‘TCP/IP Port Value Status’ to ‘Enabled’ for the Mail (IMAP) settings (leave the default TCP/IP port number value to ‘143’ as that seems to correspond with the IBM Domino server) Click ‘Save’ to apply the changes Establish a Connection with the IMAP Connector With the TCP/IP ports of users’ accounts enabled, it should now be easy to establish a connection through the IMAP connector present in the IBM Lotus Notes email client. You can now directly synchronize your Lotus Notes email data to Office 365 once the connection has been successfully established. Depending on the amount of data you are migrating, the process may take longer. Once the process completes, your Office 365 migration process is complete. 4. In Windows 8, Microsoft has redesigned chkdsk utility – the tool for detecting and fixing disk corruption. In Windows 8, Microsoft introduced a file system called ReFS, which does not require an offline chkdsk to repair corruptions – as it follows a different model for resiliency and hence does not need to run the traditional chkdsk utility. The disk is periodically checked for file system errors, bad sectors, lost clusters, etc., during Automatic Maintenance and you now no longer need to really go and run it. In fact, Windows 8 now even exposes the state of the file-system and disk via the Action Center or under the Drive properties in File Explorer. If potential errors are found, you will be informed about it. You can continue to use the computer, while the scan is carried out in the background. If errors are found, you may be prompted via a notification to restart your computer. To begin the scan, right-click on the Drive which you wish to check and select Properties. Next, click on Tools tab and under Error-checking, click on the Check button. This option will check the drive for file system errors. If the system detects that there are errors, you will be asked to check the disk. If no errors are found, you will see a message – You don’t need to scan this drive. You can, nevertheless, choose to check the drive. Click on Scan drive to do so. The scanning starts. I found that the process ran quite fast and the scanning was over in less than 5 minutes. If errors are found, you will see the following message: Restart your computer to repair the file system. You can restart right away or schedule the error fixing on next restart. To run Check Disk on your System Drive ©, using the command line, type the following and hit Enter: chkdsk /f C: If required, restart your computer. I hope this is helpful! Lewis Bert
  5. On Windows 10, a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) — also known as "blue screen," "stop error," or "system crash" — will always happen after a critical error occurs, which the system is not able to handle and resolve automatically. When upgrading to a new version of Windows 10, you may see blue screen errors, which can happen for many reasons. It could be a result of a compatibility problem with an old program or security software. Or it could be because of corrupted files in the current installation or damaged installation media — to name a few. Usually, when an error occurs, the setup will revert the changes to the previous installation without reason. In the case that you are dealing with errors during the installation of Windows 10, uninstalling non-essential apps, clearing out corrupt downloads, disconnecting non-essential peripherals, or even performing a clean install of the OS may resolve the issue. Uninstall incompatible app To uninstall an app that may be conflicting with the installation of windows 10, use these steps: Open Settings. Click on Apps. Click on Apps & features. Select the app that may be causing issues and click the Uninstall button. Click the Uninstall button again. Redownload installation files Sometimes, if you're using Windows Update to upgrade the system, you may see a Blue Screen of Death when one or multiple installation files have been damaged during the download process. In this case, you can use the Settings app to clear the previous files allowing Windows Update to redownload the files. To allow Windows Update to redownload the upgrade files, use these steps: Open Settings. Click on System. Click on Storage. Under the local disk section, click the Temporary files item. Clear the preselected options. Check the Temporary Windows installation files option. Click the Remove files button. After you complete the steps, open the Windows Update settings and try to upgrade one more time. I hope this will be helpful to resolve your issue! Lewis Bert
  6. Ransomware is a form of malware that encrypts a victim's files. The attacker then demands a ransom from the victim to restore access to the data upon payment. There are a number of vectors ransomware can take to access a computer. One of the most common delivery systems is phishing spam — attachments that come to the victim in an email, masquerading as a file they should trust. Once they're downloaded and opened, they can take over the victim's computer, especially if they have built-in social engineering tools that trick users into allowing administrative access. Some other, more aggressive forms of ransomware, like NotPetya, exploit security holes to infect computers without needing to trick users. There are a number of defensive steps you can take to prevent ransomware infection. These steps are a of course good security practices in general, so following them improves your defenses from all sorts of attacks: Keep your operating system patched and up-to-date to ensure you have fewer vulnerabilities to exploit. Don't install software or give it administrative privileges unless you know exactly what it is and what it does. Install antivirus software, which detects malicious programs like ransomware as they arrive, and whitelisting software, which prevents unauthorized applications from executing in the first place. And, of course, back up your files, frequently and automatically! That won't stop a malware attack, but it can make the damage caused by one much less significant. 12. Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020. Even though Windows 7 is no longer supported, we’ve decided to continue to provide you with security updates for Microsoft 365 for the next 3 years, until January 2023. We’re doing this to give you additional time to make the transition from running Microsoft 365 on devices running Windows 7 to a supported operating system, such as Windows 10. But, during that time, as long as the device is still running Windows 7, Microsoft 365 won’t receive any new features updates. That may be the reason the Office 365 is crashing in your system. You can upgrade your system to the latest version of Windows. I hope this helps! Lewis Bert All IObit Products for Windows, Mac & Andriod Devices - IObit
