The Pied Piper from Hamelin (Pied = multicoloured - maybe jumbled (notes)?

I wondered if Hameln had donated a great many children to the childrens crusade (I think around year 1200) - and this had given rise to the legend and subsequently to the fairytale? Perhaps they had a very persuasive monk there?

Aren't they called piked shoes? (in Danish snabelsko - elephant trunk shoes)

In the time before sewers the people with fine shoes usually used pattens (a kind of wooden galoches) to keep their fine shoes elevated over the dirt in the streets. (mud and refuse)

There was a long-toed shoe style, called 'crakow', in the 15th century,

but I don't think they curled up over foot.

The curled style may just be a loose copy of those, that is much easier to walk in? :lol:
