Vista 32 SP1 No Audio Device

I've been all over the internet trying to find a fix for this problem.

Dell Inspiron 1720...sound worked fine since i bought this laptop. After

trying to install Vista32 SP2 (which failed) the integral sound card and speakers don't work!

So far, I have learned:

1. CBS.log file is corruped;

2. No sound device found;

3. Possible that SP1 did not install correctly but have no concrete evidence that this is true.

My guess is that you need to download the latest Audio-driver software from Dell to be compatible.

(I think the latest, for your OS, was provided back in 2008, though)

See link, to see if there is a later version, than what you have:

I think the one you need is 6.10.0.5614, A03 (the A03 is modified Dell version)

Note - Of course, my first suggestion would be to get Windows-7, if possible? :wink:

(If the computer's resources will support it?)

Go here!...Great place!

Microsoft has a new Beta Fix it site. Solved my audio problems (after a heap of Windows updates). You won't believe it but MS got this one right! Took me five minutes! :mrgreen:

The fix it web platform works.

Yes DV8... Im surprised it took you so long to find it... its been around for quite awhile and linked to on this forum multiple times to help solve specific problems (althought the links given were to individual fixes... not the same as your link).

Thank you for posting the main fix-it page from microsoft!:grin:

Sincerely,

-Mel

Live long and prosper!
