We Need Computers, Why??

Based on this infographic, showing power consumption and number of calculations per second that the human brain is capable of, maybe we need to learn how to use what we have, rather than the latest tech toy that is marketed to us on a daily basis.

Yes, It's a Shame that So Many people Use So Little of their Brain-power,

but I think we Need All the Help we can Get!

Computers are not only a useful tool but also a Great Learning-aid.

As a learning-aid they greatly increase peoples Intelligence and Knowledge,

if they would Do it, instead of using them only for games and chat-lines.

Remember also that a computer free's us from repetitive and laborious tasks. Consider how simple it has become to keep track of accounts. Enter the latest data in your template and the calculations are done. Imagine having to do the calculations manually every time. This frees up our brains to devote more time to analytical and educational tasks. Provided, as Toppack says, that we do not squander the gain on only playing games and chatting.

While our brains are more powerful. they are structured differently, and are wired in order to prioritise the imperatives of survival and evolving. As such they are not dedicated to such tasks as calculating large numbers quickly, whereas a computer has no other tasks (such as survival) to perform and can thus devote all its computing power to a single dedicated task. It cannot however express a feeling as to whether it likes the job or not.

Hi Tailor

It is a great help, but I am of the opinion that being able to calculate - just approximately in you head is a very good thing - fx. if you have got a comma/point wrong in your calculations, your approximation will make you write it right the next time.

Today in Denmark if you have a small business or a farm your have to report your tax returns by electronic means likewise the VAT you are collecting for the government. So your are almost forced to have a computer - it is possible to utilize one in the library, but if you do not know how to use a computer you will have to pay somebody to do it for you.

They still haven't demanded the same from a common wage earner, but I suspect that it won't be long before they demand the same from them.

The machine society!! :-) (brave new world)

Cheers
