Oops, my wife had turned on 'Popup-blocker' on this computer, this morning,

which I never do, so did not recognize the problem.

(It was a case of her trying to Stop one problem Causing Another problem)

Why 'Popup-blocker' blocks those Links I don't understand though,

unless 'Popup-blocker' blocks All new windows from opening ?

I found a Dymamic partition converter called 'AOMEI',

through the bestshareware.com website's links.

I downloaded it and will give it a try,

Thanks

Well there appears to be a problem with 'AOMEI' also.

It said it could not convert all 3 partitions, on that drive, back to basic.

So I was afraid to try converting any of them. :-?

I've not determined Why yet ??? But I think it want's to combine the partitions, which will Not work.

It's got to be 'All Or None' !

Man, ' It's Always Something' !

Looks like this requires a test setup with another old unused drive, to see what happens, before trying it with a new drive.

It's getting 'Stranger & Stranger'

AOMEI has two selectable Methods of converting dynamic partitions:

(1) the one I first tried, combines the partitions into One (which is unusable, I think)

(2) requires that you have another drive connected,

that has enough UnAllocated-space (unused by any partition volumes) to hold the data of the partition being converted.

( and Only one partition per conversion)

Man, Talk about getting Complicated :!:

Note - What I think it is really doing is copying the data to another drive,

then deleting all volumes and then Format the original to 'Basic',

before copying it back.

That's why it is only one partition per conversion.

I can do that with my external backup-drive.

Which is what Microsoft said had to be Done, All-along.

I encountered ANOTHER unexpected problem that I think was caused by Cloning the System-C: drive.

(this problem on different computer than other recent problems)

I had a Briefcase type folder on the Desktop,

and I found that we could No longer move shortcut-icons into that Briefcase.

To fix it, I had to create another Briefcase folder and copy the icons from the old to the new one.

Then I could move More into it.

(then deleted the old Briefcase folder)

I think it is because Briefcase type folders are Syncronized to the hard-drive?

Hi Toppack,

Is this the Dynamic Disk Converter Professional you tried?

It is a paid version, but there is trial.

Cheers.

I looked at that one, it works the same way,

requiring blank-space on another drive,

for copying data during conversion.

I found that it is Better to copy everything to an external-drive,

Delete volumes, create new Basic partitions (using Windows Disk-manager)

and then copy back data.

That way you still have another copy, if something goes Wrong during the process.

Now that I know that the Volumes MUST be deleted, I can live with it.

Hi Toppack

Did you have any luck with the link I gave you previously. It works every time for me and I asked a friend to also try the link on his pc and he went straight into it.

Here is the Url itself, Maybe you can get to the page directly.

Yes, in a previous post I explained why we were having the Link problem and what I downloaded and tried, through that link.

(please see other posts for more info)

I'll copy it here:

I thought I should Add this Warning:

The Copy/Paste method sometimes does Not copy everything, when copying a large complete partition. :?

(fails to copy some sub-directories)

The Drag/Drop method seems to do a better job.

Why, I do not know ???

So, verify that all sub-directories have been copied,

when it is critical to prevent data loss.

Note - one way to do that is to check directory Sizes
