Welcome

Welcome to the forum

The mouse

First I would check to see if the mouse is faulty

If it is a plug-in (USB) mouse try unplugging the mouse, wipe the connector with a dry cloth then plug in your mouse again, try a different USB port.

If you have another mouse try that one or maybe you could borrow one from a friend/neighbour just to test it

If it is a Bluetooth mouse check that your Bluetooth is turned on, sorry I don't know anything else about Bluetooth

DCOM

If you check under Service in the Report you will see that DCOM did start, it's just that "DCOM got error "%1058" attempting to start the service SENS with arguments"

I searched for the error message DCOM got error "%1058" attempting to start the service SENS with arguments "" in order to run the server: {D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E} and found the same @ Microsoft Answers Forum with instructions to see this solution @

You cannot manually start the Automatic Updates service and you receive an "Error 1058" error message on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005

All the best, woz of oz

Thank you so much for quick response.

Okay, I really do not understand anything much about computer workings anymore, and in the beginning back in Win 98SE was pretty savy. Then life got too much. Anyway I still do not know why DCOM needs to start etc. I am running what DELL calls Windows XP Media Edition, which is also Windows PRO, and have had this system since May 2005.

I certainly will try what you have suggested, and luckily had an older microsoft usb mouse that seems to be working fine.

Just wondering if you could suggest a place for me to go read for a kind of "brush up" computer learning.

Thanks again for your great help.
