Keyboard malfunction after running Smart Defrag v2.7 with Boot Time Defrag

solbjerg,

I ran chkdsk /r and oddly enough the keys seem to be producing different character combinations than before now. You may be on to something.....

If you want to check the condition of your hard disk I recommend Hard Disk Sentinel

The trial version will give you an easy to read and understand report but you can't run any of it's repair tools

Download Hard Disk Sentinel Trial

wozofoz,

I tried running HD Sentinel and it shows everything normal. Nice program though. I may keep it.

Thanks,

solbjerg,

Everything shows normal in dxdiag. I have never used that cmd on my computer before. I'm thinking either the driver is corrupted and appears to my scans as normal or my actual keyboard shorted out. The replacement one I ordered is coming from China in a few weeks.

Thanks,

plan Z

Hi blackdocs,

If the driver you need is on your laptop, (C or D),

go to the standard keyboard driver in device driver manager.

select update driver BUT LET ME CHOOSE, from files on my Pc.

If compatible devices is checked uncheck >see screenshot.

do not select have disk unless you have it

select the device you have installed and press enter.

hope you know what it is.

It should then find and install the driver

Cicely and scrd01,

Please, take a look at these screenshots. Which option should I choose because it said updating the driver would affect the pointing device too? I can't afford the chance I might lose it too because its my only reliable input device right now. However, I think one of these might fix my problem. Option 4 being the default option that doesn't work, already tried it.

Thanks,

driver update

Hi BlackDocs,

nearly got it right,

you need to scroll down to samsung in the LEFT hand column,

(not standard keyboard as you had in view3.)

and then select the 83 key keyboard

Dont worry about losing your pointing device there is a rollback driverkey,

mine is grey because i have not updated it.

You might want to backup your drivers before make any changes

• Advanced SystemCare

• Toolbox

Solved

Well, I just received the replacement keyboard today and I'm happy to say my keyboard is now working after replacement. Thanks for everyone's help. If it had not been the keyboard I'm sure we would have solved it.

Again Thanks,
