For the past few years I have been using IObit ASC 3to6 and Now ASC Ultimate 6 and also updated Defrag constantly. I follow the ASC Screen Monitor as to when I need to Scan and Defrag my Windows 7 Pro System.

Within a month or two each Program has corrupted my system I assume by over deleting registry, system and other programs on the HD and corrupting my Registry during Registry Defrag. All of these things have happen during ASC Recommended Scan Fix and Defrag. I can't even restore to al latter date because Defrag erases restore files that may be far enough back to reset before they were screwed up? The ASC manual doesn't really help because it is almost just a repeat of the program screen names and doesn't really define some of the items for user understanding.

I am sick of having to use an old clone of my hard drive to re-setup my system every month or two. I don't k now which is worse letting MS security updates, etc. run every few weeks and progressively slow down my system and occasionally corrupt it or have ASC optimize it, have it run faster but progressively erase or corrupt system and program files so I have to reinstall from an old clone and reinstall previous upgrades to Win7 and my other programs????

How can I keep IObit ASC and Defrag from Overdoing it? The Registry Fix List of fixes is either over-my-head to know what they mean OR hard to view do to the newer format of "Non-Enlargeable Screen (Full Screen)Listing Space" on the ASC list screen? :-(

defrag/reg fix

Hi Railrol,

I dont believe that the registy defrag is causing the problem,

it only moves simular items closer together.

ITS more likely that the registry fixes that are causing the problem.

I DO NOT REMOVE ANY MS keys.

high/medium or low risk items.

Only third party items

and have not experienced any problems.

There are so many posts regarding this type of registry clean-up,

WHICH ALL ADVISE

if you dont know what your changing

LEAVE IT ALONE.

Hiya!

I have IObit ASC Ultimate6 Pro, Defrag 2.7,IObit's Uninstaller and IObit's Malware Fighter 2.0.1 Beta on my machine and I have NEVER had any problems generated by ANY IObit software. I run Defrag manually at the end of every day as a matter of routine.

MAIN RULE: Do NOT Deep scan the registry unless you KNOW what you are doing! The 'High Risk' results from a deep scan means that it is high risk to YOUR computer to 'fix' the 'HIGH RISK' items.I reiterate: DO NOT DEEP SCAN YOUR REGISTRY UNLESS YOU ARE COMPETENT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS IN FRONT OF YOU!!

I don't mean to be so 'bossy' sounding but just stay safe with a 'normal' Registry scan and fix all those items. That is safe and I will vouch for it!

Happy computing and best regards from 'down under'!

Hi Cowboy,

Just for the sake of curiosity, don't give the name, but is the compatibility mode of ASCU made for one of the security softwares not mentioned or is it behaving bad in normal mode with one of the included names?

Cheers.

Our kitties RUN the household mate!

...AFAIK you can have dual US/AUS citizenship forever as both say nothing about not being both.Oz and the U.S. have a very closely bonded relationship that does not extend to most other nations...:-)

Funny you mentioned that. I just removed MS Security Essentials (today even) because it was slow, bloggy and took up too many resources for what it did.As for another reason,it plays nice with two other excellent programs that you can prolly guess..

All me stuff is nice to each other and works well! (Note: AV in Ultimate6 is set to 'paranoid' maximum,it's happy!)

Kind regards

Cowboy

EDIT: Thanks for the info Cowboy, now noticed the change in your Public Profile.!

Hi railrol,

Sorry for diverting your thread.

Since you are using ASC6 Ultimate, you can use the Registry Cleaner in the Toolbox. You can maximize the window and also untick the Deep Scan option.

You can also share your scan in the forum to get advice.

I agree with Roy that Registry Defrag shouldn't be the reason of your problem. If it causes a problem, you can't start your PC.

Cheers.

Railrol, like eno I apologize for going off topic...I have some more things for you to check:

In Expert mode care Scan GUI,make sure you don't have 'Fix Automatically' Ticked when you scan.

Also in Expert mode, click on the small thee bars at the right top of the front GUI,click and then click 'settings' where you can set every option in Ultimate6 including the Registry Cleaner where you can untick 'Deep Scan'.

When you scan, please don't fix problems automatically or deep scan the registry!
