SD 2.8 detecting several times a USB Flash drive

Hi.

I've noticed the following issue:

After connecting a USB flash drive, and having SD interface open, for some reason SD hangs for 30 or so seconds, and after that SD shows 8 times the same USB flash drive.

Here is the screenshot, I only have the C drive, and when the USB flash drive is connected it appears 8 times listed. Attached is a screenshot.

Also as I've reported in another thread http://forums.iobit.com/showthread.php?t=15709 SD won't let me to securely extract USB flash drives that are detected by SD, even if I've not enabled automatic defrag and SD is not doing anything.

Please fix both issues since they are very annoying.

Regards

Hi ektorbarajas,

Thanks for your feedbacks.

Does the issue " when the USB flash drive is connected it appears 8 times listed" happen every time?

For the other issue " SD won't let me to securely extract USB flash drives", did you turn on "Automatic Defrag" manually? Did you defrag your USB flash drive before you remove it?

Please give us more details to look into the issues.

Thank you for supporting IObit!

Hi Cicely.

The issue of a USB drive appearing 8 times happens at random when windows has already finished loading and the USB drive is attached.

About SD not letting to safely remove the USB drives. I've not enabled automatic defrag and have not defraged nor analyzed the USB drive. seems like as soon as SD detects it, locks the drive.

Thanks

Hi ektorbarajas,

Thanks for your fast reply.

For the issue " SD won't let me to securely extract USB flash drives", it is a bug in SD. We will fix it in our next version. Thanks for helping us figure it out. :-D

To avoid inconvenience, please use the demo to solve your issue in advance.

1. Please download the demo from http://testdemo.iobit.com/0719/SmartDefrag.exe

2. Please Exit your SD . Then, right click the icon of Smart Defrag on your PC desktop and choose " Open file location" to open the installation folder of SD. Then put what you download in step 1 to replace the original SmartDefrag.exe

3. Please try again to see whether the issue continues.

For the other issue, we will look into it further.

Thank you for supporting IObit! Cheers.:-D

Hi Cicely, will try that exe and see what happens.

it's good to know that your figured this is a bug and that a fix is on it's way :-D

BTW I think it would also be a great feature related for SD:

Even if you have an external USB drive (Flash or HDD) set for automatic or even boot time defrag; that when you try to safely remove the drive then SD will "release" the drive and allow the safe removal.

And in case that a defrag is in process, that SD detects the safe remove procedure and stops the defrag.

About the issue of external USB drives sometimes appearing more than once, will also look for further information from iobit

Thanks Regards

SD and SDD questions

I suggest Not Defraging SSDs, Flash-drives, Dongles or any other device that uses IC-memory instead of disk-platters,

since any type of excess use greatly Shortens the Life of these devices.

That is a good advice.

And that gives me to another questions

1) other paid defragmenters claim that they have special algorithms and procedures to properly "defrag" the SSD and USB Flash drives, even some of them has published white papers. So is there really a reason and benefit to "defrag" with "special" algorithms an SSD?

2) what is the diference in SD when a drive is defined as SSD? does SmartDefrag ignores it? or does it defrag and optimize in a different way?

Thanks

Hi Cicely, after several days of testing the issue is still present  sometimes when I want to safely remove a USB device (Flash, EHDD) SmartDefrag is holding the devices and won't allow me to do a safely remove procedure.

I think it's key to have that issue resolve, since the workaround is to close SmartDefrag and reopen it. That's not the best solution, SmartDefrag must be aware of the safely remove hardware request and "release" the USB device, even if it's being analyzed or defragmented.
