Hi, All,

I downloaded and installed ASC 3 RC4. Great to see a help file is included now.

Can anyone suggest an alternative HTML reader, as IE always takes ages to open my HTML files.

Hopefully, one day they'll reinstate the original Security Analyzer tool in the Diagnose System section.

One small point: The System Backup tool in Utilities only works on XP Pro unless you've installed the NT backup from the Installation CD.

Firefox 3 is the slowest browser I have ever used,it might be safer but as for as speed I just don't see where you are coming from, even the developers know they have a problem.

Compared to Opera, Firefox is a bit slower. But even so, I think it's faster than Google Chrome. I don't see how its slower 0_o I use it all the time and is much better than IE.

slowest ever?

Hi rsvejkosky-the slowest you've ever used compared to what others and on what OS? Safer is a given, hands down-and the developer problem would be....?-what-that Mozilla's been kicking Microsoft's butt all over the internet since the day they threw their hat in the ring? My post serves to suggest obvious advantages of FF over IE-I would love to hear more from you on this(post back in the lounge section,if you wish) I welcome the opportunity for what should be a "lively" discussion on the topic of browsers vs. speed-I'm sure we will hear from many on the forum-heads up,do your research! look forward to hearing back from you

Hi, detailer,

Thanks for your suggestions and I think you may have opened up a can of worms.

Actually, IE 7 (and IE7Pro ) suit me okay, but it's just so very slow to open any offline HTML file, sometimes taking about thirty seconds.

I disabled "Windows Live Sign-in Helper" in "Manage Add Ons" and that has helped considerably. I suppose it's okay to leave it disabled?

Hi Ted-opened that can of worms because I'm fishing for knowledge-there are some very experienced pc users on this forum from whom I've learned a great deal-I've used Opera,Safari, and of course IE-Firefox seems to be the best fit for me-I've seen countless comparisons, from the simple everyday user viewpoint, to the ones written in terms I don't even understand-but with the lounge being a bit slow lately, thought this might be a good time to stir the pot

heh compared to many others i am very experienced(for my age) but when it comes to complex things or hacking or editing registry i am $#$#$# at it  . i turned 13 just a couple months ago... boy do i miss bragging that i was 12 and knew so much about computers and is ultra good at shooting games lol :mrgreen::mrgreen:

ahem back to the subject. for fast computers, firefox is as fast as opera, maybe faster. it currently only has 2 non critical security holes. take a look at the report http://secunia.com/advisories/product/19089/?task=advisories_2008

while opera has no security holes http://secunia.com/advisories/product/10615/?task=statistics

please note they may not be fully up to date. google chrome doesnt have a report out yet but apparantly the way things are going google chrome isnt as safe as firefox and especially IE which has 9 security holes

http://secunia.com/advisories/product/12366/?task=advisories

for slow computers (3.0 GHZ and 1 gb ram or lower) i recommend opera.

note: just because firefox has 2 security holes, they are NON CRITICAL as in 1/5 score. take a look at those reports.

Hi IcyFrostPyro

You just go on "bragging", it was a very intelligent response.

Thank you!

Cheers

more on browsers

IFP-Thanks for those links-you haven't mentioned your browser of choice-meanwhile, I thought a look here might be amusing -excuse the quality-it's exactly what we expect of youtube. It lacks info as to OS,warm or cold start etc. Then a clearer comparison example can be seen here. There are several more, some of which deal with aspects of computing that I've yet to learn.Feedback welcome from all :!:
