After running AWC and rebooting I get the windows logo and then a black screen. I cannot boot in safe mode. It stops at system32\Drivers\Mup.sys

I have another boot disk UBCD4Windows. How can I restore to where I was before running AWC?

Thanks

Solution found!

Delete all these files - you might want to back them up first just in case, just rename with a .bak extension instead of delete

c:\windows\system32\config\sam

c:\windows\system32\config\security

c:\windows\system32\config\software

c:\windows\system32\config\default

c:\windows\system32\config\system

Rename files in:

c:\windows\system32\config\

sam.iobittemp to sam

security.iobittemp to security

software.iobittemp to software

default.iobittemp to default

system.iobittemp to system

Now I'm back business!

question for Sharon

Sharon, I do not have a boot CD for my XP (lost). If I can get into dos mode I can do what you have suggested. But now I cannot even get to the c://

do you have any suggestions? Thank you. My computer has been dead for 3 days!

Hello, can you tell me which module cause this problem? The Registry Fix module in ASC or the Registry Defrag tool?

Hi hzkd,

Since you don't have the install CD, to get to your C:drive, you have to use one of the nearest second PC.

-If your hard disk is IDE and the 2nd PC's hard disk is IDE, than you can connect it to the connection of CD player, disconnecting the CD Writer/Player of the 2nd PC.

-If your hard disk is SATA drive, then you need a PC with SATA drive and special connection adapter.

The 2nd PC will see your drive as an extra drive such as D, E, F, etc., and you can change the files.

Connecting the hard disk back to your own PC, Windows should run.

I hope this helps.

thank you all for your responses.

enoskype and tim xue, I appreciate you all for trying to help me. I finally got a window xp boot CD and managed to get into dos mood. Then I followed exact what SharonD214 told in his post, deleting and renaming those files. Then once I restarted my computer on its SATA drive it worked just like nothing has ever happened. My problem has been solved. Thanks SharonD214 for sharing your experience otherwise who knows how to fix the problem.

I was using Advanced system care v3.0.0 when the problem occurred, and was using its IObitregistry Defrag utility. So in my case I believe the bad guy is Obitregistry Defrag. I saw a few of other posts in this forum that report the same problem as mine.

Thank you all again!

Great to hear that you solved your problem.

So, Registry Defrag module of ASC 3 was to blame.

This is what Tim was expecting for a feedback.

Thank you and cheers.
