I am running the lateset version of start menu 8 V1.4.0.908 and when my win 8 computer starts the metro screen will display for a full 4 seconds before going to the desktop that is really annoying and want to know is there anything I can do?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

4 Seconds?????

I find it very sad that you have a problem with 4 seconds. Start Menu8 is a program that allows you to use your system as you prefer, rather than what MS dictates......and you have a problem with 4 seconds??????
