And the time gets longer and longer and longer!

I just installed the new final version of smart defrag,

after using one of the fastest beta versions that you ever had.

I went to defrag and optimize, and the time goes from

2 to 4 to 15 to 24 minutes, and not it's up to 30+ minutes.

And that's JUST on 1 drive! :(

Why is the time going up instead of down?

Is this a bug or what?

That's weird. I just got this one yesterday.

I started the op and defrag again this about 1/2 hour ago, just on my C drive.

The time is now up to:

336:11:19

That IS ridiculous!

Is 1.03 going to be any better?

hi MistyEyes

I have just informed IObit of this, - it must be a bug. I just tried version 1.03, and it said that it would take 1 hour and 20 some minutes to run the Defrag&Optimize, when in reality it took about 15 minutes.

But otherwise it is a nice update with much better colour compliancy.

Cheers

Hi MistyEyes

That is very extreme. You could try to make a clean install of the program, that is to say uninstall it, delete the smartdefrag folder in your programs and install the newest version.

Take a look at the string Install-Uninstall-reinstall first.

Good luck

Mornin!

I loaded up the new 1.03.

I started it at 9:14am my time. It is now 9:45,

and smart defrag says:310:54:06

Hi MistyEyes

Very extreme! Do you also have it set to run automatic?

And do you also use ASC 3 and this too set to run automatic?

Cheers

solbjerg

yes I did,

and this message is too short LOL

I had the same problems with every version after I think 3.1 beta

it's now up past 600:00:00

I do not have it set to automatic.

I removed the old version beta 3+, and it was not set

to auto either.

I think I am going to go back to that old version.

I am just glad I held onto a copy of it.

FYI: 800:00 + and I am shutting it down.

It's hung and has not moved

Hi MistyEyes

I have been using Smartdefrags official version 1.0 up until now, but have now tried 1.03, and it works fine by me except for the "Time Left" that works like I descibed earlier.

I also always have the previous versions in my downloads folder for quite some time. At least until I am sure that I wont need them.

Defrag only is perfect.

It's when it tried to optimize that is freezes.

I feel like this is not good for my machine for some reason.

I really like the older version I was using as it was super fast.

It may be useful for IObit to find out the problem, if you send them which file SD stalls when optimizing.

sorry again solbjerg, I am out.

sorry "SD"? oops ... LOL!

It stalls when it stalls, there is no 1 file that it has been stalling on

Day 2 -

I again, totally removed SD using CCleaner and it's reg cleaner.

I am trying to run the program as I type but ...

again, it degrags really quick but when it comes to optimizing,

it is already hanging. When it hangs, it always hangs about 10% in,

and it is always something different that it hangs on.

It has now been running for over 15 minutes and the

timer on SD says: 46:00:00 ++

NOW look at the image. YIKES!

So I am shutting it down :(

Oh well

The version I had been using and works like a charm is: IObitSmartDefragBeta3.1.

Every version that I tried after that one never did work correctly.

As a matter of fact, the only other time I posted here, it was for a similar problem.

Hi MistyEyes,

After seeing your screenshot of the layout of the files on your disk, and assuming that it is the system volume, I would like to recommend you to use a defragmenter with offline defag capabiity such as Perfect Disk. You can use the trial version to offline defrag the system files and then Agressive Smart Placement defragmentation option to have a basic good layout of the files on the disk.

Later you can try to use SD again.

In the mean time, perhaps, IObit finds a solution to your problem.

BTW, you never told us your exact configuration of SD. (ie. battery option, CPU usage, large file limitation, etc.)

Cheers.

Hi!

I have Drive 1 - 400.09 GB C & D

Drive 2 - 750.16 GB - E,F, & G (empty)

Drives H and I are a backup, and portable.

XP SP2 Home

The setup on SD is as follows:

minimize to systray

auto check for updates

enable tooltips

enable smart silent

stop defrag when battery

skip files larger than .... I have tried from 1gig down to

500 MG

Auto defrag is NOT enabled

I hope that gives you a little understanding of my monster machine. LOL!

- I will try that program you recommended.

In your last msg to me, You said:

"and assuming that it is the system volume" what did you mean?

Thanks MistyEyes,

I meant if the Windows OS is there on your C: drive.

Since it seems that you don't have a battery, why don't you uncheck "Stop defrag while using battery", and uncheck "Skip files larger than (any)" and try once.

What type of files you have got other than Windows and program files?

Cheers.

I will try one more time with the different settings.

I just downloaded PerfectDisk so if these new setting that you

suggested don't work, I will give it a whirl. TY!

I do have some programs on my C Drive aside from the OS.

I try to keep them off C but sometimes there are no options,

or they have always been that way going back 11 years.
