Shred recycle bin

Hi hcgoddard

Please try to locate the equivalent of C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\IObit\Advanced SystemCare V7 in XP - in Windows 7 and find the main.ini file

Open this file and check if the context menu has a 1 at the shredder option. If not place it there :-)

Cheers

On my old system running XP, ASC 7.2 Pro allows me to right click and choose an option for shredding the contents. But on this W 7 64 bit, this option for shredding is not offered.

Is this a setting question?

Hi solbjerg:

Thanks for the quick reply. I found two main.ini files for V7, but neither contains a section entitled "context menu" and shredder option. Some other line?

I did find that the main.ini file for V6 dated 1-15-2014 does have a context menu and has shredder set to 1. I renewed my license on 1-9-2014, so apparently that file was updated by ASC 7.2.

Is version 7 using an earlier file?

Another suggestion?

Hi hcgoddard

I am sorry but I only have XP available here - I hope some other user can assist you.

I cannot guess how Windows 7 is made up, sorry.

My 7.2 version of ASC does have the main.ini file and it does have the context menu settings within it, here in my XP, more than that I am sorry to be unable to answer.

Do you have the setting to have hidden files shown (in the folder settings in the control panel)?

Cheers

Hi hcgoddard

The actual main.ini file by me contains this section

[ContextMenu]

File Undelete=1

File Shredder=1

Fix Shortcut=1

Sweep Privacy=1

System Control=1

System Information=1

Repair Disk=1

Clean Disk=1

Defrag Disk=1

Space Analysis=1

Open File Location=1

Have you seached for main.ini files and looked the result over in order to find the location of this file in document&settings or whatever it is called in Win 7

Perhaps try seaching for File Shredder=

Good luck!

Cheers

solbjerg

I set hidden files to be revealed, but it did not reveal any other main.ini files.

But thanks again.

Shred recyle bin

Yes, I have that file for V6, but not for version 7. In fact, even that ASC indicates that it uninstalls previous versions when upgrading to the newest, it has left the main.ini for versions 5 and 6, although not the same one that contains the context menu in V6.

Guess I will have to ask support.

Hi hcgoddard

When uninstalling - especially if something is wrong it is a wise move to delete the leftovers before installing the new program version.

This is also mentioned in Usage of IObit Products

The concept of a clean install can be found as a link in my signature

Please try this method

Good luck again :-)

Cheers
