So far I have not had any issues with this defrag program. Although last night I did have an issue with IOBit Advanced SystemCare 8 free. After I had it installed and ran it once or twice, I was checking out all of the settings. The little box that was residing in the corner of my desktop that showed the ram usage and such, when I clicked on it to lower the box and see what the other stuff listed was, it sent me to the BSOD. Once I had re-booted and was back up it said it had collected info and wanted me to send it to you, which I did. But, that was not related to the Defrag program.

Now then, I have a few suggestions that I would like to see in your product.

  • The “Schedule” settings should include a setting for the defrag to begin at “Startup” and “Logon”.
  • An option to move the large files to the end of the drive, files like movie files, disk images, archives, and an add option.
  • An option that would allow IOBit Smart Defrag 4 to be minimized to the system tray.

I also have a few things from another Defrag program that I use which would be nice/ helpful to have in IOBit Smart Defrag 4.

  • Cache analysis data of multiple drives – Remembers the analysis data of all analyzed disks. You can analyze more than 1 disk and then switch between them to see the results. If this option is unchecked, once you switch to another drive, the analysis results of the previous one are lost. This however means that ********** will be less memory consuming.

  • Stop VSS when defragmenting NTFS volume – This option disables Volume Shadow Copy Service and Volume Snapshot Service whilst defragmentation is running. After defragmentation is complete, VSS is restarted.
  • Folder entries
NTFS file system uses special index files to identify folders. These files are hidden and contain information such as filenames, creation timestamps etc. These index files are usually located in the MFT (resident). However if the folder contains a large number of files the index file will grow too big to be stored in the MFT and will moved to another location the hard drive. If these files are moved out of the MFT they can be fragmented just like any other files which may cause performance issues for viewing folders with a large number of files in them. There is an option in ********** (Settings > Options > General > Show folder index entries in the file list) which causes these files to become visible and therefore allows them to be defragged. Please note that sometimes Windows can put a lock on an index file which will prevent the defragmentation process.

I do not know if your product has any of these capabilities built in or not. But it would be nice to see them in your product.

I am a long time user of several of your products including Smart Defrag which has always been one of my favorites. So far it seems I may have a new favorite version, I love the new interface, it seems to work great and I have had zero issues so far on any of my computers.

Came across an interesting bug today. SF4 doesn't recognize that one of my drives is a removeable drive. I have SF4 settings set to ignore removeable drives, but my one small drive still shows up in the list. In the screenshot, Otter (B:) is a 4 GB USB flash drive, while WolffePup (C:) and HP_TOOLS (E:) are a couple of partitions on my laptop HDD. On the other hand, SD4 successfully ignores KODIAK (D:) a 1 TB portable HDD.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Hi bnjroo,

Thanks for your feedback. Did you click the right-arrow to see whether the KODIAK (D:) listed in the second screen?

If it is still not detected, please download the tool from http://testdemo.iobit.com/SD4InfoHelper.exe

Then double click to run this tool and click “Save report to Desktop”. You will get a zipped file IObit_Debug_Info.zip on your desktop. Please send it to us so that we can get the detailed information to look into.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

this morning seems to be slowly defragging one tera byte hard disk

Hi there,

How long did it take to defrag? You know the defrag time depends on the size of the disk that you are defragmenting and the defrag method that you running.

Hi Grubbworm and SEAN56,

@Grubbworm, thanks for your precious suggestion. I will report it to our product team for consideration. One thing need to confirm is that the feature Stop VSS when defragmenting NTFS volume is available in Smart Defrag.

@ SEAN56, to look into the issue you mentioned, please download the tool from http://testdemo.iobit.com/SD4InfoHelper.exe

As for the feature Stop VSS when defragmenting NTFS volume is available in Smart Defrag, I just missed seeing it. I found it later after I submitted.

I will post more comments as I use it more. So far I like what I am seeing.

Hi all,

A little morning from France ! And sorry in advance for my poor english...

I used Smart Defrag for many years with pleasure. Comparatively to others, I like Smart Defrag for his speed and the background functionning. Unfortunately, with all versions, I had always the same problem : the aplication crashes randomly after some days (I don't stop my computer every day, I put it in the sleep mode).

And miraculously, with the Beta 2.0, I didn't observe this phenomenon !

Is it a coincidence or did you work on this issue ?

Thx a lot for your nice work !!

Hi All,

I‘m very happy with your products but I don’t really understand about 2 these products:

1.Smart Defrag pro v.3.3 (not free)

2.Smart Defrag v4 Beta 2.0 (free)

I wonder that:

Why have 2 these products not been found on your website http://www.iobit.com?

Which product, Smart Defrag pro v.3.3 or Smart Defrag v4 Beta 2.0, is better one?

Thanks and best regards
