Advance System Care Crippled Windows 8.1

Recommended Posts

I hate to come here and just start throwing rocks, but ASC really did a number on my computer. What happened? I decided to try the Iobit Smart Defrag because I had installed Windows 8.1 recently, removed some applications, and wanted to see how good this SmartDefrag was. I let it do its thing. Just a normal defrag and nothing advanced. Now before we get into the whole thing here, let me just say that I was working on a nearly fresh install of Windows 8.1 with Avira Antivirus, and nothing else but MS Office, Winamp, Cubase, and some Adobe stuff. I am mentioning this because I know some will say I broke my computer with a virus or something. Nope...I am 110% sure that everything was working fine until I decided to let the SmartDefrag upsell me on ASC. I thought, 'OK...sure, lets try it out'. Bad move on my part. I let this neat looking tool do its thing and then when it reboot, my computer was never the same. Applications took forever to load up and run now. Winamp always took 15-20 seconds to start where it would start instantly before. Cubase decided it wanted to take forever now to load up too. In fact everything started taking forever to load and run. I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I decided I better uninstall ASC but the damage was already done by that point to the registry. I had to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro to get my computer working the way it is supposed to (I would rather fresh install than backup when things go this bad)

Now I have the same applications and everything installed and my computer works fine.

I did a Google search and read about ASC doing the same thing to a few other people.

I think it might be safe to warn some people here that you should do a backup before installing or trying ASC. It's a good thing I am A+ certified and an MS Certified Professional. I was able to reinstall the OS and get my computer running back to normal again.

Maybe if I bought ASC my computer would have started running normally again ;) In any event, I will not install any Iobit stuff again.

Sorry guys.

Hi Serpentz,

Welcome to IObit Forum.:-)

We have already taken this feature of creating restore point before installing ASC in next version. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

Have a good day.

Hi Cicely

I am a bit confused by your reply to Serpentz.

He explained in great detail that ASC/Smart Defrag caused serious problems on their machine, yet you have not addressed this issue.

You mentioned a restore facility but Serpentz never suggested this. He advised users to do a backup.
