Will Malware Fighter 4 catch ransomware such as TeslaCrypt?

My father-in-law got a very nasty infection with TeslaCrypt 3.0 also known as

  • .micro file extension
  • RSA-4096
  • help_recover_instructions+klh
  • Trojan.Agent.Trace

This encrypts all files and demands ransom of €500 for password/ code to unlock files. He did not pay and I wiped his hdd and reinstalled Win7. He lost all his files and photos, and also his back-up external hdd was also infected. But all his files he had emailed with Hotmail so he could recover them and I have all his photos.

He was using McAfee (free).

I want to know if Malware Fighter 4 will catch ransom-ware such as TeslaCrypt? That is what I have now loaded on his PC.

Hi MontyW, welcome to IObit Forum! :-)

Please have a look at Latest malware reported by users that IMF can remove topic, you can have an idea of the latest malware IMF is capable of catching.

I may have missed it but I don't think TeslaCrypt is caught by IMF. I hope I am wrong! Perhaps IMF PRO with bitdefender engine, but I strongly advise using a well known anti-virus software. (Check the site specifically for TeslaCrypt. It has many variants)

Cheers.
