Driver Booster 7 may install unwanted software

Recommended Posts

Every other time I turn on my PC, a message in the bottom right is displayed offering me "free instagram followers". Upon further inspection, this ad popup is made by "Gins.exe", which is added to Driver Booster's install folder automatically (probably by the updater/scheduler).

I was curious to know if this was a scam, so I clicked the link and it took me to "easygetinsta". Now, I don't really care if a software on my PC as useful as Driver Booster shows an ad occasionally once when I first turn on my PC, such as a sale (because it wont affect performance after I close it). But, there is a bigger issue. When clicking on that link, it silently installs the "easygetinsta" software. This is completely unwanted, malicious behaviour and even after uninstalling the software, some remnant files were installed.

IObit should NOT install software without the user's permission in any case. Even if I disable all the scheduled tasks except for skipUAC, it will re-enable those tasks when I switch my PC on, which will redownload "Gins.exe", even if I had deleted it.

Where did you download Driver Booster from. If you did not download it from the official download site, which you will find in the News & Offers section of the Forum, then you

may have downloaded from a third party site, which may have inserted unwanted software.

You should completely uninstall DB and reinstall it from the official site.

I did install it from the official site. Anyone with an installation of Driver Booster can confirm the same by opening "Gins.exe" in their install folder. My sister's computer also gets an ad popup every now and then after switching on her computer.

Ok.....I should not have used the word "Official". If you downloaded from the "Official" site then you most likely downloaded from Softonic. There has been many issues similar to

your own regarding Softonic. If you completely Uninstall DB, then go to the News and Offers section of the Forum, you can download the latest DB from the Majorgeeks site.

This is completely clean and has not third party addons.

Also no point coming back to me and telling me how crazy it is that Iobit still use Softonic in their official link. This issue has been addressed with Iobit many times and they have ignored it.
