v1.11 tries to change default homepage

Recommended Posts

I tried to intall iobit v1.11 and I get popups that warn me that it is trying change my default homepage in IE7 during the install. Of course, I don't let it change the default homepage.

Moreover, v1.11 installs and runs on Win 2K Pro Sp4. However, if one

exits, logs out and then in, or reboots and logs in, followed by running

smartdefrag, I get alot of exception error popups. Every reboot, logout/in

after that will generate popup exeptions when smartdefrag starts.

Note: I have a iomega zip 250 drive with no disk inserted when this happens.

But if a zip disk is inserted and the computer restarted, logged in and

smartdefrag is run, there are no exceptions generated.

The w2k problem has been doing this for every previous version of

smartdefrag for the last two years.

solberg,

I haven't changed any settings or options other than what

originally came with the install. I'm only trying to defrag a seagate

IDE 40 gig C: drive which contains the OS.

This is on the Win 2K system. As for the homepage being changed

by iobit during install (the one downloaded directly from your site) is being

flagged by AVG 7 and 8.

Do you want a screenshot of the exception and/or a copy from the

system event log appended as text?

If I recall correctly, The optional include to the installation was the "Yahoo Tools Bar" that, unless you un-check it, will be installed simultaneously with Smart Defrag and/or Advanced SystemCare.

Because Yahoo is an Internet Explorer manipulative program, I can see how this could be flagged by any Virus detection system.

Is it possible that you 'did not' un-check that install option?

... I can only hope this is helpful, because I know that SD and ASC are NOT malware.

Good Point!

Thanks Valuater-I was totally unaware of that option, and it just might explain etal's problem in this thread.Since I always take my IObit upgrades as "over the top" installs,I haven't had this problem. Not to mention Webroot would stop that dead in it's tracks during installation.I'll post back there to alert him.In the meantime, have a look at this list of shame-a little old,but it makes a good point. Many thanks

Yes, I always uncheck the box which wants to install the Yahoo toolbar.

This problem has also occured on XP SP3 and Vista SP1 too. It only

started happening with v1.11.

The other possiblity is that it could be a false positive by AVG.

Is there anybody else who has AVG whereby this didn't occur? This

may help isolate the problem.

Hi mike

There was a false positive i AVG a month or two back, but not recently

My AVG virus database says 270.11.10/1995

It did sound as if you had missed unchecking the Yahoo toolbar option this time though.

What about your settings?

I do not use default settings, so I do not remember what they are.

And I do not want to make a clean install of the program just to find that out.
