System Problem

After suggesting to a friend to download and use AWC to correct freeze issues in XP2, when the computer boots up, no icons and a black background with no start button or task bar is all that now shows.

When trying to load "safe mode" same result.

Any idea why and what to do to correct it?

 

Incidentally, of the 30 some odd peeps I have suggested using AWC, this is the only one that has had any problem.

It sounds like your friend's GUI is messed up. When you start windows and get to the blank screen you should press "ctrl+alt+dlt" to open the task manager. The go to the file menu and click "New Task (Run)".

 

You can also do this by pressing "Windows+R".

 

After you have open the run command box type "explorer.exe" without the quotes and see if the GUI loads properly. If it does then the error is likely only for that process and you should be able to use a windows xp install disc to repair the problem.
