Hi take2rox,

Best way to learn the connection speed for download and upload is asking to your ISP (Internet Sevice Provider). They can also say you the connection type (PPPoE, etc.)which you need for advanced optimization.

BTW,

kbps=Kbps

1000Kbps=1Mbps (1000kilobits per second=1megabits per second)

NOTE: Please, make no mistake of Bytes. (1024Kilobytes=1Megabytes)

Mongoose,

There is no 3Mbps in Internet Booster, and information is not enough to use the Internet Booster for best optimization for expert usage.

Cheers.

Don't feel bad Mongoose-I always screw those numbers up.Good thing we have Enoskype! But you're right about 3MB being the closest match-unfortunately,2MB or 4MB are the options. That's why I liked the old version better.

Please do not depend on speed tests on the web, they will always give different results at different times and different connections.

Best bet is to ask your ISP for your allowed maximum download & upload speeds.

Sinuhe, I will make a wild guess for yours, taking into consideration of latency of 83ms, as 512kpbs download and 128kpbs upload speeds. Go to www.speedguide.net for broadband tests.

Cheers.

Sinuhe, I have written that the correct one will be the one that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will be telling you. Just ask them!

I should have been more precise about speedguide analysis.

Please go to the main page www.speedguide.net than,

on the left side of the page, hover over your mouse arrow on:

Broadband=>Broadband Tools=>SGC TCP/IP Analyzer

and click.

post the results copied from:

Share Your Results

to here in the forum.

Note: Click in text area to highlight. You can use CTRL+C to copy the results to clipboard, CTRL+V to paste them here.

Cheers.

I need help too

Hi, I need help too. I have just installed the latest version of ASC (v 3.3.1)

I have an Acer Aspire One ZG5 8.9" NetBook running Windows XP (see Avatar)

Wireless: Atheros AR500 7EG Wireless Network Adapter (v 7.6.0.224)

Processor: x86 Family 6 Model 28 Stepping 2 GenuineIntel ~ 1596 Mhz (in case that matters)

Best way to learn the connection speed for download and upload is asking to your ISP (Internet Sevice Provider). They can also say you the connection type (PPPoE, etc.) which you need for advanced optimization.

And here lies the dilemma for me:

Like so many people these days I take this petite 'puter with me whenever I travel and connect to wifi in the Hotel (as I am at the moment), Cafes, Airports, anywhere I can.

When I use it under these circumstances I am unable to know what the bandwidth is and therefore what setting to choose.

My question is (and I am not even sure that there is an answer to this question  )

What setting would be considered a catch all or if in doubt select ?

What I have found:

When I hover the cursor over the wifi icon in the Windows TaskBar it says, Speed: 54.0 Mbps

Please do not depend on speed tests on the web, they will always give different results at different times and different connections.

I couldn't resist and did a test at SpeedTest.net . For what it is worth the results follow:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/469814146.png

By the way, I set mine to 1M in Auto.

What would be nice is if I could connect to wifi, launch ASC, click a button and then something would scamper off to the ASC website (or wherever) and back, then tell me the best setting or automatically set it for me.

I don't know if this is possible but it would be nice

Thank you for your time and patience

All the best, woz of oz

Hi Sinuhe, yes, 768 kbps is your bandwidth.

Adjusting the following values will optimize your internet connection IMHO.

-Start Internet Booster utility.

-Choose "Expert Mode" radio button and click "Go!" button.

-Choose "TCP/IP Settings" button.

-Choose "General Settings" tab.

Under Your bandwidth:,

-Put te slider to "1M".

Under Network Adapter Select,

-Choose your PC's network adapter from drop down menu that you use to connect to DSL. (fx., Intell Wireless or Realtek Ethernet, etc.)

-Check "Modify all network adapters" checkbox.

Your MTU value in Speedguide.net reveals that your connection type is PPPoE.

-Check "PPPoE" checkbox.

-Type to MTU: 1492 (it should be already 1492 after checking PPPoE.)

Under Time to live,

-Type 75

Under General Settings,

-Type 63888 to "TCP Receive Window:".

-Choose Yes for "MTU Dicovery:".

-Choose No for "Black Hole Detect:".

-Choose Yes for "Selective:".

-Type 2 to "Max Duplicate:".

Under TCP 1323 Options,

-Check "Windows Scaling".

-Uncheck "Timestamps".

Leave adjustments under "Advanced Settings" tab as they are.

Click "Optimize TCP/IP" button.

Click "Exit" button.

Restart you PC.

Get the results from speedguide.net again and post it.

Cheers.

Hi wozofoz,

My post about asking permissible max. download speed and connection type to your ISP is still valid for your permanent connection to make it really Optimized. (There wouldn't be Expert Mode if the Auto Mode was the best Optimization.)

Speed: 54.0 Mbps you see on the taskbar is the available max. speed of communication between your PC adapter-Wireless: Atheros AR500 7EG Wireless Network Adapter -and wireless Router/DSL. (Speed of the data sent by wireless PC<-->DSL) (By data cable it would be 100Mbps PC<-->DSL).

I would set yours to 2 Mbps for Auto. for where you are.

Your wish is infact half reality.

IObit claims that the Auto Optimization will automatically adjust all the relevant adjustments sensing the connection type. All you have to do is ask the available speed wherever you are.

Here is the quote by Tim Xue, the author of ASC:

Internet Booster will detect the MTU in realtime, pings a list of websites and find the best value for your network settings.

If you inform me like Sinuhe did with the results of Speedguide.net, I will try to optimize your connection for your permanent (most of the time) internet connection.

Cheers.

Thank you so much for that excellent reply :-)

I will be here for quite a while and will be coming back so I have done the Speedguide.net test:

« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »

Tested on: 05.09.2009 21:57

IP address: 60.51.xx.xxx

Client OS: Windows XP

TCP options string: 020405860103030001010402

MSS: 1414

MTU: 1454

TCP Window: 65044 (multiple of MSS)

RWIN Scaling: 0 bits

Unscaled RWIN : 65044

Recommended RWINs: 65044, 130088, 260176, 520352, 1040704

BDP limit (200ms): 2602kbps (325KBytes/s)

BDP limit (500ms): 1041kbps (130KBytes/s)

MTU Discovery: ON

TTL: 50

Timestamps: OFF

SACKs: ON

IP ToS: 00000000 (0)

At the top of the page it says:

MTU = 1454

MTU sometimes used in PPPoA applications. If not, consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings.

I am using a router at these wifi hotspots but I guess there is nothing I can do about "....it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings."

All the best, woz of oz
