I read this on the forum all the time. I just installed asc3 and now my pc is real slow. I'm sure some people repair things that they should put in the ignore list, and they should read how to use IObit before doing any repairs. Everyone's pc is different, that's why it's called pc(personal computer). Having said all this, my pc is very fast some times and very slow some times. It depends on several factors. Your anti virus might be up dating ,or other programs could be up dating;like windows. There could be high usage on your subscriber net work, and some more things going on that I'm not smart enough to know about. I have windows home addition xp3, DSL.speed 100Mbps ,AVG, ASC3, waiting for ASC3'S new spy ware.I was using windows defender, but that is bad news. I use ASC3'S Smart Ram to monitor my free RAM, and CPU. If the bar is green, my pc is fast,if the bar is red my pc is slow. When the bar stays red for long periods of time, I just restart my pc, and that has always got me back to being fast again. This works for me, how ever those that know me, know that I'm a little odd. I will let those on the forum smarter than me explain how to use ASC3'S Smart Ram.Live well my friends.[garybear]PS attaching screen print to show Smart Ram in system tray by the clock.

i believe you free some RAM when it goes Red. if it stays red you can deep clean it or you can press ctrl alt delete and see whats taking up so much memory. its always nice to know if your antivirus has missed something or something is doing something xD

Thanks for post Icy

Thanks for your post Icy. My CPU is usually just fine. Its my RAM that slows me down. It will usually free its self, but some times it won't and that's when I restart my PC. I don't know what that does, but it always frees up my RAM. Some times I can use the deep clean feather to free Ram, but some times that doesn't work. I always try that first.[garybear]

Hi gary

It looks like you have a 512 MB RAM

I would buy an extra and place it in the other slot in the motherboard thereby raising the available RAM to 1024 or 1536 MB RAM.

It looks like you have several things running in the background, so I think that extra RAM would help.

As far as I know they are fairly cheap at the moment.

Thanks solbjerg

Hi solbjerg. You are right about the RAM being 512. There are two sticks, 256 each. I have thought about getting more, but have heard that some times that won't help with speed. My PC is usually pretty fast.I really was trying to tell people that their are reasons why their PC is slow at times and stop blaming asc3 for their PC being slow. I have suggested asc3 to friends, as I am sure you have, and they tell me it slowed their PC down and they uninstalled it.They never bothered to see why it was slow, just blamed asc3. I love asc3, but have stopped recommending it for that reason, just tell those who are smart enough to know what's going on, which are few in supply. My PC is very slow at the moment and there is a reason for it, AVG is running and its a resource hog when its running. I could blame ASC3, but I know better.Live well my friend. [garybear]

Right gary

Of course you knew that the RAM was a little on the low side

What is the clock speed on the computer?

Going by the amount of RAM it is a fairly old machine and perhaps motherborard you have.

But you are right AVG consumes quite a bit of the resources when running a scan - on the other hand - at least I hope - it will finish the task that much quicker :-)

I am not sure that having the smartRam running helps in any way in that situation??

Ram

Hi Gary-Solbjerg is right.Ram will make a big difference. It's inexpensive and easy to install.I just added 1GB of Ram to my daughter's PC and it's like a whole new computer.I can point you in the direction of where to buy it,making sure it's the right part(compatible)and give you the best places to price shop.Funny, the newer faster Ram is cheaper than the old stuff. My cost delivered was $42 for 1GB.Two weeks earlier,it was $27-I missed the sale-my friend didn't! If you're going to continue running that AVG,you should look into this.Insalling it is easier than getting drunk :razz: PM me if you wish,or we can do it on the forum for anyone else who wants to learn or contribute.

Hi gary

Go with detailer's suggestion about RAM, probably a good idea to have the procedure to plug it into the machine described in detail too, for others that want to do the same!

About slowing down the machine: All auto function running in the background will slow it down to some extent, so why not advice them to run it manually, that way they get the best of both worlds :-)

AND remember to tell them to read Usage of IObit Products first before trying to run any cleaning and repair!!

Cheers

Thanks

I got my credit card canceled because I wasn't using it enough. I haven't got a new one yet.I will look into getting more Ram. I know how to install it. I really don't get in that big of hurry , but I really thank you both for your advice. This is a great forum and I have learned a lot. Yes my PC is going on 5 years old. I will get back to you detailer if I get a new credit card. I will never attain the knowledge you guys have, but it sure is fun learning, and I am very thankful.Live well my friends,[garybear]

Hi, solbjerg,

You mentioned clock speed. I'm showing my PC ignorance, but does my attachment show this?

RAM: I had a new motherboard and HDD installed nearly two years ago and the MB had 256mb of RAM on board. The technician advised me to fit another 512 mb of DDR RAM, which I did, but advised against using the 512mb stick I had in my old MB.

My PC is going perfectly at the moment, but should I replace the 256mb stick with the old 512mb stick to give me the 1GB suggested?

These are the details on the old stick: MDOAD4F3H41KB1CA8 DDR333(2.5)512m*16

Hi Ted

Yes, I am sorry I should have said clock rate, but many say clock speed, to excuse myself for the misnoner :-) . It is measured in Mhz, so your screenshot hit the nail right on the head!!

Nice picture by the way!

Cheers

Hi, solbjerg,

Thanks for that. I see these terms mentioned often, but have never bothered to find out what they meant.

Nice picture by the way!

Yes, as they say: One picture's worth a thousand words (or something like that).

Hi Ted

In a broad sense for the average user it gives a pointer to the speed at which the computer works.

If you want to know more there is no way around having to find descriptions on the Internet. :-)

It is a large - technical subject!!

Cheers
