[1.Bi-Weekly]Comparison: Advanced System Protector vs IObit Security 360

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First of all I like Iobit and their products very much. I have a very old pc at home and thanks to the asc free it turns very good for an old computer and the 360 also. Great job Iobit !

But before I knew about iobit (securty 360) I used a program from http://www.systweak.com called Advanced System Protector.

Also like Iobits Advanced System Care they have Advanced System Optimizer. Like I said, I used them all before Iobit. But now im with Iobits products. Much better and reliable with also more utilities and other options to improve the performance of your pc.

So I thought that I could compare Iobit and the older Product I used before (ASP). So I'd like to help you Iobit producers to improve your products with this test I made.

And here are the results of the FULL scan for both of the free products.

I have to be honest. This suprised me ALOT. Because I thought that 360 would become the winner and would not be missing any infections and definitely not a MALWARE compared to ASP. Also with the DOG on I thought it will find infections that ASP would have been missed. What I had discovered was just the opposite. The 360 missed 18 infections of Trojan, rogue programs etc. + a Malware. That's what surprised me alot. What i did liked was that Iobits Security 360 scan result had a time of 16 Mins and 23 Secs. But ASP had a scan result of 29 Mins 6 Secs. Iobit may have the half of the scan time that ASP has, but Iobit scanned around 66764 objects and ASP scanned over the 340000. (Don't remember the exact numbers.) Further ASP has an auto update for Free usage, but Iobit only for limited user's with license. What I didn't liked of the ASP is that my ram usage got higher when ASP got started. It took more time to load then usual. But 360 is very light and starts very quick compared to ASP. This is all what i have experienced with the the 2 Free products.

I hope I have tested it right and clear. If I have forgotten something please tell me so I can improve this test and make it as reliable as possible. Hope this test can also improve the Iobit further with their products.

Cheers,

Blacksea.

From Netherlands.

Not meaning anything, but I was just reading up on all the stuff of IObit Security 360, when I saw this thread of yours. I have never heard of Advanced System Protector, so I went to that website you provided, and my Security Software brought this up instead: http://www.websecurityguard.com/detail.aspx?domain=systweak.com, so I am guessing it is a bad site.

So that program might actually be the cause of all the detected infections.

No, serious ?

I don't think so.

They are a legitimate Company and have release other products..

Systweak, Inc. Releases Software To Protect Internet Users

Systweak, Inc., a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, has released their AntiSpyware software AntiSpy 2008 ,

for consumer purchase.

I always dowloaded it from cnet.

It's a trusted site what I know as far.

Also the editors have a positive saying about this application.

I did searched on google if it is a rogue or fake program. But I kept finding positive conclusions about this program.

http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=advanced+system+protector&tag=srch;a&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows&filter=platform%3DWindows

Cnet gives a conlusion 'Tested spyware free' .

I also scanned it with Avira Antivirus.

And with the 360.

The result was negative.

But what I do know is that websecurity guard from Crawler is a fake program.

Its is recommend by Spyware terminator. I used that program too about 2 years ago.

BUT after a scan it says self that crawler toolbar is a adware and is infected?

Kinda strange. It also dramatically slowed my computer. So i had a thinking of it that was infected.

Here is a link what has more information of the Crawler toolbar (web securty guard)

cheers.

the reasoning behind all the fuss was because that systweak.com had ads for unsafe other kinds of sites on it. That is probably how they made money besides selling their products. I found this out after bout an hour of searching for info.

Sorry bout the confusion. And as for the rest of the stuff, the "illegal warez" WebSec Guard says is only for the OS tweaking tools, cuz you can do stuff that M.S. does not want you to do with them.

Wow, I just saw today that ASP has 3 false Positive.

Here they are !

Steam is a program to use for lots of games. If you have a steam account, you can sign in from any PC to access your games. Your games are associated with your account, not your computer. With Steam's "Friends" service, you can talk to your friends while you play. You can also see when they're playing games and easily join the same servers together.

(Link from http://store.steampowered.com/about/ )

Myself I play Counterstrike: Source.

So I know that it isn't a Trojan-Backdoor.hupigon.ucw (Backdoor) or something.

I have the program and I think it is nice, specially cos it allows cleaning in the free mode. I have used AVG before but now I disable AVG antispyware because it takes a lot of resources. This system protector is much easier on my old P4 with 512Megs.

I downloaded a couple of torrents for a friend and this protector was quick enough to tell me in the next auto scan that these files were some trojan. This info was probably missed by AVG or the AVG auto scan was not run by then, in any case, I was protected.

I think it is a good product overall. I have download 360 and will post my comments on it soon. Hoping for some real killer stuff now!

two cents..

Much of what you listed were not real threats. You have registry/software problems, I'm very sceptical about that link provided as well.

Everthing on Cnet is not pure!

L

So is this a rogue program or not ?

Please can some expert user take a deeper look on that program ?

thanks in advantage,

Blacksea.

Systweak released Advanced System Optimizer 3 yesterday, I think it's integrated in that now.

Yes I think so 2, Because now it has a function to scan for malware and spyware. This is also a great optimize tool. I see that they have changed ALOT, because I didn't used it for a long time. Like they have added a game optimizer, registery, driver update, defragment tool, register defragmenter, lets say alot. But I will be still using ASC free. Hopely I will buy the license, but dont have the money right know, I have to work then =P.

But maybe I can compare ASO with ASC :D if Iobit whats it ?

It will be much better then this test, I also started to improve the ASP vs 360 test !

It will take about few weeks, but i have plenty of time. The test will endure six months so :D

For Iobit it would be a other comparison test !

Sincerely,

Blacksea

  • 2 weeks later...

Be very careful with ASP or you could do real damage to your system. It is not a "rogue" program but it will produce sometimes DOZENS of false positives (this is the new ASP 3 version as well as previous versions as I have tested both of them).

It is so ridiculous that they even detect some IE explorer settings as viruses (not the program but the actual settings in the registry)

If I'd deleted what it "found" ... I'd be in a heap of trouble right now lol. This happened in version 2 as well which is why I junked it. This one is also headed for the garbage bin.

Some examples of the "dangerous" infections it found were ...

7 text files left behind by pc decrapifier (records of scans)

14 registry settings used by TCP Optimizer (not dll's but settings)

6 custom settings for Internet Explorer (that I set myself re colour etc)

2 mru entries ... completely harmless

recguard (used to protect the recovery partition)

c:\windows\i386\jscript.dl_ (normal windows file and tested on virus total just in case all 41 negative)

A version.dat file belonging to AnVir task manager pro

fdi.dll used by a poker room where I play poker

system32\install.dll (also checked on virus total)

The CLSID for Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool

My context menu openas command in the HKCR\* key

And many more. You get the picture

What a joke !!!

1 Bi WeeklyComparison Advanced System Protector vs IObit Security 360

There is currently no system-quick suite, but if you propose a suite with what tests to include and such, I would be happy to make it. Or if you run: phoronix-test-suite build-suite you can create the suite and I would be glad to push it upstream.

error loading winupd dll
