System Optimization argues with Internet Booster

The argument rages

I go to ASC > Utilities > Internet Booster and select Auto Optimize, select 2Mbps and click Optimize

Everything seems ok

I go to Diagnose System and do a System Optimization scan and I get the following 2 results:

Optimization: Optimize TCP/IP

Registry Key: TcpWindowSize

Current Value: 130680

Recommended: 522720

Optimization: Optimize TCP/IP

Registry Key: GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize

Current Value: 130680

Recommended: 522720

I repair the 'problems' and then did another scan and got the result No problems

As an experiment I went back to Internet Booster and did another Optimize for 2Mbps and then ran another System Optimization scan, the 2 'problems' were back.

So, which do I believe, System Optimization or Internet Booster :???:

Hi wozofoz,

After running internet booster, you need to run a diagnose system scan & place all the "internet" related "problems" in your ignore list or it will put them back to standard ASC optimization.

Bigger is not always better

Thanks for the reply

I had a feeling Internet Booster should have the final say but since the System Optimization figures were so much bigger they seemed more 'appealing'

Just goes to show, bigger is not always better

System Optimization had also suggested I change my Network Services settings and if I were an 'average user' this would be good advice but since I always use public wi-fi and never want to share anything with another computer this didn't apply to me (don't need printer and fax either).

I had spent a lot of time researching and changing these Services settings to make my NetBook safer and faster, so into Ignore they went.

With all these in Ignore I get No problems and this makes me very happy

That's good wozof oz, but wouldn't you like to optimize your Internet setting a bit more.?

This seems to be absurd, automatic optimization is better than no optimization, but not the best.:-)

Have you followed the thread that garybear has adjusted his Internet Optimization?

Cheers.

Public wi-fi is not easily tweaked

Hi enoskype

Yes I did follow that thread and hung on every word. I would like to go advanced to get the best possible settings but since I always use public wi-fi this is not really practical.

It seems the most important fact to know is the real bandwidth speed that can be obtained by contacting the provider.

If I ask the staff at the hotel they tend to look confused and offer me a brochure.

If I ask at the wi-fi coffee shop, I get extra sugar

I'm exaggerating of course, but you get the picture

So, when 'on the road' I select 2Mbps hoping it is a good all round figure and use the Automated setup.

If I intend to stay somewhere for a longer period I will try to get the bandwidth figure. I did ask the staff here to find out the figure for me but nothing has come of that, yet

You are absolutely right wozofoz.

Then it seems that the automatic optimization is a good compensation for you.;-)

Just a question, at the moment every 3-5 minutes I have to re sign to the Forum, is there anything like that you are experiencing there at the moment?

Cheers.

BTW, if you have 5 minutes when you are using the public wi-fi, one thing to do is after automatic optimization by Internet Booster, connect to the speedguide.net and try to change your RWIN value as a multiple of MSS and try to keep the measured TTL by speedguide.net as 64.

I think, that will give you better connection.

Cheers.

Sorry I am late with an answer.

No, I don't have to sign in here or at any forum but the internet seems very slow at the moment for everyone I have talked to.

Thanks for that tip, I will certainly do that
