defrag of backup fails

Recommended Posts

I defragged my main drives and then made a complete backup with Windows 2k utility. This is stored on one of my data partitions because it's too big to fit in other smaller drives.

Windows2000 defrag tool leaves the backup untouched but shows it to be badly fragmented. IObit SmartDefrag, in comrehensive mode, is also unable to defrag the backup folder. Is it possible to defrag a backup and why should it be fragmented anyway?

Hi brumman

There has to be at least 15 % free space on the drive for defragmentation to work. Can this be the problem?

I went from Windows 98se to Windows XP, so I do not know Windows 2000.

Is your partition listed in the defrag window?

Good luck

By the way - are you Swedish?
