Timeout

Hi,

I am often obliged to re-log between the instant when I write an answer to a thread and the instant to post it. in effect, I sometimes have errors of translation to be corrected...

I find that the delay before timeout is too short ! Any smartness may be ?

What about that ?

Remember Me ?

I am not sure if this is what you mean but......

If you mean sometimes when you click Submit Reply you are asked to enter your forum name and password again.

This is quite common with vBulletin forums and usually happens because you have not ticked Remember Me when you logged in.

Tick it and you should not have the problem again

Personally, I always write my replies in Jarte (NotePad replacement) then copy/paste when done.

This is just because in the past I would often use a CyberCafe to post on forums and the chances of losing everything were high

Hi Wozofoz,

Thank you for your quick answer ! Is my english so bad that in every thread members tell me "I'm no sure if it is that you means ?" he he

I'll try that next times ! I believe it'll create a cookie ? isn't it ?

vous écrivez très bien l'anglais

No, your Anglais isn't bad, it's very good actually and it's a whole lot better than my Français, which is zero. (I hope Français is correct)

It's just that there could have been more than one problem but I have had that particular problem when I used a CyberCafe and didn't want to tick Remember Me for security reasons.

Yes it will create a cookie but if you want to clear (delete) it then click Log Out when finished.

You can always use the ASC Privacy Sweep if, for some reason, you want to make doubly sure it is gone

p.s. français - I think (Alt+0231 = ç)

Reply to p.s.

Thanks but I have PhraseExpress set up to do a gazillion text things using Alt+ so when I try that I get my different text.

Luckily I could just copy your ç

Hi wozofoz

You could try just Alt+231 but that gives me a different character þ

Ok, try Hex then Hex: E7

Write E7 in Word, place cursor right behind 7 and use Alt+x use it again and you will get the number once more. Rather a nice help they added to Word/Office quite some time ago.

It does not work in Notepad but it works in WordPad.

Hi guys,

solbjerg is an expert on creating characters, and even created a special Macro for Word.

I use it when I use Word.

It is a personal choice, but I find it easier to use the Character Map instead of memorizing for any kind of foreign characters to the keyboard when I am on the forum.

Hi titou

The 4 quoted characters can all be written by using the keyboard :-)

it is those with cedilla, agonek or the like that it is usually necessary to find. One possibility if using them often is to place them on the keyboard using MKLC (Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator)

Or in this present case buy a French keyboard :-)

Or utilize the on screen keyboard option.

î ê ï ü ô 238 32 234 32 239 32 252 32 244 (32 designates the space)

î ê ï ü ô written by using the keys available on the keyboard

U+EE U+20 U+EA U+20 U+EF U+20 U+FC U+20 U+F4 U+20 (U+20 = space)

The U+ is just to tell us that the "number" is in hexadecimal notation.

Babel Fish

And then there is the Babel Fish

The Babel fish is small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy recieved not from its own carrier but from those around it, It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. the practical upshot of this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any language

Hi woz of oz :-)

If Job had had one of those he could have talked to the whale!

Not so long ago we had a lot of babble fishes here though, not a very pleasant experience. :-)
