ok ive heard a lot about all thats happened from windowscare and id like to share my settings for windowscare that has caused no problems. i too like a lot had problems with freezing and stuff like this anyways here are my settings

1) for you new guys, use the restore point before doing anything else

2) dont use the defender - atm i found it to do more damage than good

3) dont allow it to run in the system tray - it seems to only conflict with other applications when defender and/or system tray options are checked.

everything else minus the system tray option and defender i have checked, it has been one of the best products ever since i made those minor changes. hope it helps for the rest of you with problems

Hi Matt,

Security defense is a great feature in AWC. I can't tell you how many things it has blocked for me, but I can tell you how much junk I had before I started using it. most users have no problems using it.But there are a few that are having problems with it. Something like that is usually caused by a conflict with another program, browser setting, ect...

There are some really good minds helping on this forum. Sometimes it takes a little info gathering and head scratching to decipher what causes these conflicts. They can get info as to what programs someone is using, settings... ect., and try to find out what is causing the problem. Maybe un-checking one thing will make it work with no problems, and some other users can benefit from this knowledge. I think letting these sharp people try to help users find the problem they are having may be better than just telling them to "turn it off".

If the doctor tells you " If your eye offends thee-pluck it out" and you do...then he calls back and says "wait-I found some eye drops that will fix that right up!" it doesn't help you much. Maybe it is best to let some one try to find the problem instead of just telling them to "turn it off".

samr.

how about i speak from experience? its my settings and my opinion. plus if you have an anti-virus and anti-spyware in use this doesnt block out anymore than the other 2. if anything it takes up more resources and like with me cause it to freeze. just cause you have had different results doesnt mean everyone has had the same, so i offer an opinion from past experiences. plus these were my settings and i am aloud to choose my own settings and offer people advice on how to fix problems. of course when i hear a problem similar to what i had ill tell them to take the same steps i did, thats common sense. why would i tell them to try something else when i had the exact same problem and what i said worked for me?

MattLee - The Security Defense portion of AWC is not a real time, background scanning type of application. It scans only when you tell it to, then simply populates the security and privacy sections of Internet Options with known "bad" items. (I believe it also scans for "bad" cookies but I'm not sure about that.) See enoskype's post here. So, whether you have it checked or not, if you ain't in the middle of a scan, it ain't doing nothing. The hang during a scan could be caused, like enoskype says, by other browser settings or maybe even by other Internet Options settings. The fact that it does hang indicates an underlying problem, and you should troubleshoot and fix the underlying problem, not just turn the feature off.

Anyway, please be careful with the uninstall/reinstall, turn it on/turn it off, "This will definitely fix it!" blanket answers, 'cause you can get people into big trouble that way.
