Problem with Java

Hi. I used Advanced Windows Care V2 Personal to clean my system and I uninstalled all versions of Java (there were several). Now I am unable to re-install Java. When I try to download and install (using Explorer or Firefox) I get the following error messages. First:"The installation of package http://java.sun.com/update/1.6.0/jre-6u3-windows-i586-jc.xpi failed with -203"

and then second:"Firefox could not install the file at http:/java.sun.com/update/1.6.0/jre-6u3-windows-i586-jc.xpi because:Unexpected installation error. Review the Error Console log for more details. -203."

So I can't install Java on this machine.

Can you help with this, please?

Try clearing your internet explorer cache and temporary files (including offline) and all the privacy data in firefox as well. Then try reinstalling with the java found here http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

 

That is an online installer and works just as well as an offline package. It's also the most recent version.

Thanks for the tip, but I tried that and still get exactly the same errors! ANy further ideas about what may be going on here?

Thanks, that fixed it (though I didn't need to reinstall the bookmarks - they were not deleted). I appreciate the help.
