GB is unable to close any process that uses the "space" character in the name

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm a french user of Game Booster, so that I which that you will be indulgent about my "special" english.

Well, all is in the title. It seems that Game Booster won't stop any process who include a space into is name like a little gadget that i love to use :

Thoosje Sidebar.exe

I've got any other process which are in the same case, with a space symbol and that i can't stop.

So I first just want to know if anyone else have the same problem and if it as a solution.

Thanks a lot to have trying to read my post and I hope you can help me.

Hi Biostrider,

You are absolutely right, a good catch.

When there is a space in the name of a process, Game Booster does not close the process although it is seen as closed in the Game Booster window.

I have found an original exe file with spaces in the name of the file.

Example : Flash Cookie Cleaner.exe by Consumersoft.com. (A stand alone process.)

If you run Flash Cookie Cleaner.exe and then run Game Booster and check the checkbox of Flash Cookie Cleaner.exe and "Switch to Gaming Mode", Flash Cookie Cleaner.exe is seen as closed, but the window is running on the desktop. When you switch to "Normal Mode" second occation of Flash Cookie Cleaner.exe runs on the desktop. This is an indication that actually it is not stopped at all.

Temporary Solution:

Rename Flash Cookie Cleaner.exe to FlashCookieCleaner.exe (without spaces) and run, then, Game Booster closes it as normal if you check the checkbox of it when you Switch to Gaming Mode!.

Cheers.

Hi Biostrider,

I have given the Flash Cookie Cleaner.exe as an example to show everybody that what you have found out is true and can be tried.

It is not very often that you find an exe file with spaces in the name.

Being a stand alone application, so that they can try to see GB can not close a process with a space in the name.

Renaming is suggested for the actual exe file, nothing to do with the GameBooster.ini file.

Please delete Thoosje=1 under [CheckedApps] in the "GameBooster.ini" file and save the ini file.

In your case, "Thoosje Sidebar.exe" should be changed to "ThoosjeSidebar.exe" in the folder of that program before running the program.

If it works and if you have a shortcut to that program, please do not forget to change the target in the properties of the shortcut, or create a new shortcut.

I have suggested the temporary solution, as you said it is a little gadget, probably a stand alone.

If it doesn't work, you can change it back to it's original name.

Cheers.

Hi, Enoskype

Just a few words to say that it works.

For other users, don't forget to change your HKLM : run infos in the register if you want your program still run at windows startup.

Thanks again Enoskype and see you next time on the forum!

Hi Biostrider,

Glad to hear that it worked for you, and thank you again for your finding and suggestion for the HKLM Registry change if the concerned program has an option of "Start with Windows" and the feedback you have given.

Cheers.
