Unstretchable Windows

Mervix

Recommended Posts

Hi, I use Advanced Windows Care and enjoy it a lot. However, under the tools I notice a reoccuring issue when I use some of them. The programs like the Disk Doctor and others have windows that don't stretch. I try to read the program's description and try to use some buttons sometimes, but they default at an unstretched mode and I can't stretch them any further. I am on a Windows XP and my windows updates are all up to date.

Hi Mervix

Rather many programs/applications do not have the ability to strech or maximize.

They lack the parameters to do so. A choice the program writers have decided on!

You could try if a selection of another size of the screen may help - perhaps 800X600 (if the problem is that you have difficulty in seeing what is going on)

Cheers

So True

Solbjerg hit that one on the nose. Many programs do not support "resizing of windows"-which is the correct term for what you are trying to accomplish. Some have the ability to go from default size to full screen, much like a browser, where others can be expanded via a mouse drag.It would be nice to see this feature in the IObit product line-especially since I've gone to a new 26" monitor. The ASC GUI looks like a postage stamp in the middle of my screen.I'm certainly not going to adjust resolution to accommodate the occasional use of third party software.

Hi detailer

Nice to see you again :-)

Your screen is almost as big as my TV, so you probably sit in another room without binoculars? :-)

I am not advocating another resolution - just bringing it up as a possibility :-)

Cheers

Well, programming resizable windows is not a big deal. I don’t know what code -language they use, but it actually should not be more complicated than ticking of the True not False for scalable windows.

Asking people to adjust the resolution on the screen is; well I wouldn’t do that.

I believe that we still struggle with old habits. (Like browsers with 800x600).

With my three 24” monitors, all of them with 1900x1200 a window of 200x200 is too small.

So, my advice is that IObit switches off that fixed window size.

Hi Viking

I do not know why IObit hasn't made the windows resizeable.

If I should hazard a guess I would opt that he reason may be the probability of millions of users around the world that still uses 14" or 17" screens - after all not everybody are as affluent as we are.

Cheers

Hello again!

That is interesting that some programmers choose to keep their program windows unresizable. I wasn't confused about it being a bug/issue, just thought that it would be better to accommodate all screen sizes since everyone is different (as we have seen from the comments!).

Thanks for the alternatives and for all your well thought comments.

Love the program and services, keep up the good work .

Hi Mervix

It is good to bring it up! Thanks!

I asked IObit about it a couple of years ago, but at that time they had no plans to make it resizeable - they would consider remembering position though.

So I think it is fine to remind them from time to time that it can be an issue for some people with large screens.

What size screen do you think is most common in the US?

In Denmark I think that many still have size 17" and rather few size 14"

but many also have 19" - 20" or more.

In some situations one has to consider this when sending files to someone else, like we had to consider the size of files or pictures in the days of 56 Kbit telephone modems, so that people did not have to wait for 10 minutes to see a perhaps rather non-important picture that hadn't been made smaller before sending it off from a broadband connection.

I think most people when they buy computers in America get big screens. Unless they are using a really small laptop it just makes sense (at least American sense ) if you have an expensive/good computer to make the screen big too. I think that my screen is 19" and I think it's fairly big so maybe somewhere around there.

I'm glad we're past those days of 56 Kbit telephone modems .

Ok Mervix

Thank you - about the same as in Denmark then.

Perhaps the programmers could build in that the resolution adjusts to the recipients setup. That would go a long way in solving the problem I think.

Yeah, the 56 Kbit modem really called for patience :-)

Cheers

p.s. before I got a modem I just used the "Hyper Terminal" and the telephone connection.

Hi Viking

You are right about the variations in screensize being a good argument for resizable windows.

But as I said earlier I do not know why IObit hasn't implemented that function.

Cheers

It's the same in Norway. average is 19 - 21". Bandwith 5 - 10 Mb/s.

Myself: 3 24" and 30 Mb/s fiber.

Actually, I think that the variations of screensizes is an argument for resizeable windows.

Hi Viking

Ja, ret roligt :-) (in Swedish)

I worked at Stord Skibsverft (Hardangerfjorden) in the seventies when they produced oilrigs.

p.s. I translate a bit for people in need of assistance at freelang.net and once had a lady from Texas that wanted to call her filly/colt "Anselig" and wanted to know how to pronounce it - I wrote an as in an ouverture, se as in see, lig as in litigate, but finally sent her a sound file where I pronounced it in my brand of Norwegian accent. :-)

Det er da sjovt å vide at man kan kommunisere på Dansk/Norsk, ikke?

Ha en fortsatt fantastisk dag, Solbjerg.
