Can't figure this out! (memory leak by IS360)

Hi friends. I've been trying to figure this out for months. I have a theory, but that's all it is. After a restart of my PC, Ram Smart shows around 800MB free. As I use my PC , the number changes and eventually will go as low as 500MB free. The page file starts around 200MB and gets as high as 600MB. When this happens, I can't excess the internet with IE8 and Outlook express won't open until I restart my PC. I have learned if I exit IObit 360, then RAM free goes back up and Page file goes down. My theory is that IObit is taking memory and not releasing it back to my system. All the rest of my apps seem to release memory back, but IObit doesn't. I hope this makes since. It's not a big problem, because a restart fixes it, but it kind of aggravates me some times. I'm wondering if this might be a bug and could be fixed.==garybear PS 2nd screen shot is shortly after exiting IObit 360.PPS This should give you smart guys some thing to play with. I do not have a clue???

HI

Hi friends! Just add this little tidbit. Looks like everyone is into uninstallers. I just down loaded CCleaner and they have improved theirs!!

Hi friends!

Hi friends!! I did a search on IObit and RAM. Does this sound a little familiar??

http://forums.iobit.com/showthread.php?t=5137&highlight=hogging+memory PS I'm not saying IObit is hogging RAM. I'm just saying it's not releasing RAM back to the system like the other apps do, until your forced to do a restart or exit IObit360. Then your free RAM will then return. I've watched this for a long time.===garybear

Hi friends. No responses!!

Hi friends! Since I haven't gotten any responses to my thread, I decided to do a search on the forum. I found this. Very interesting!! My theory is that IObit 360 is not releasing memory back into my system. I think sunny's post explains it very well. It appears to me, that IObit only releases memory after it has been exited, and even then it is slow to release memory. Other processes release memory almost immediately. I'm still researching all this, but I'm not real smart, and would appreciate any advice or help. This I do know. After my PC has been on for 2 or 3 days without a restart, my free memory goes way down and I'm not able to open Outlook Express, and I can't use IE8 to access the internet. In the past I just restarted, but lately I have been exiting IObit360, and letting my free memory come back. It stays around 800GB free and 78% as long as IObit is not running in my tray. I will post again after trying some different things.===garybear

Hi friends!

Hi!! I guess I'm the only one posting. My latest observation is that IObit seems to releasing memory better. I have Zone Alarm shut down right now. I will leave ZA off and see what happens. Then I'll turn it back on and see if my free RAM starts disappearing again. Some thing is leaking memory. I have tested with a memory testing program. It shows no problems, but that runs after reboot and I don't understand it, but think it's only testing my RAM sticks to see if they are good. I don't think it tests the apps for leaks. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. I really am out of my pay grade on this!

Hi Gary,

memtest is only checking your RAM sticks if they are working properly.

Try using Process Explorer from Sysinternals (MS now) for your observations.

Please try to follow from the help file if it sounds too complicated at the beginning.

Cheers.

Hi my friend!! I'll try real hard but this looks way beyond my brain power!! Thank you my good friend!!

Gary, you can add colums to show the various types of memory usage or whatever you want to observe.

It is like adding columns in the Task Manager.

Plus, you can open a section window at the bottom to show the handles, etc. for the highlighted process.

Cheers.

I'm trying friend, but I have a pea brain!! I appreciate you friend!!

Hi garybear

From your below screenshot it seems that you use very little memory - and only 3 MB was released during your latest cleanup.

You do know that the green line shows you how much free memory you have, right? (if it showed how much was used I would expect the colour to be black or red) :-)

Cheers

Hi!

Hi friends! Where is my free memory going?? It gets smaller by the hour. It is 100MB smaller this morning. Every thing still works. I guess I'll wait till things don't work and see if I can find where it went.

Hi garybear

According to your latest screenshot:

Your CPU usage is 3%

You have 712 MB free Physical memory out of a total of 1021 MB capacity (around 70% free)

(it means that you have 309 MB in use)

You have 1558 MB free Page file out of a total of 2459 MB (a bit more than 63% free)

(it means that you have 901 MB in use)

You have 2004 MB free Virtual memory out of a total of 2047 MB ( around 98% free)

(it means that you have 43 MB in use)

That doesn't look as if you use much memory in my opinion!

Cheers

solbjerg

p.s. In other words - as long as the green line fills out more than half the space you are in fine shape!

Hi friend!! I agree, but some thing keeps taking my memory over a period of time and won't release it back to my system. I have read that that is called a memory leak. If I stop and then start IObit 360, then I get my memory back. I agree that 50% free should be enough, but IE8 and Outlook Express doesn't think so, and refuse to work when the green bar is less than 50%. Thanks for your help my friend. I'm convinced that IObit360 is the problem and I'm trying to prove it to myself. Since IObit team don't want to check it out, I guess I will have to. Thanks friend.==garybear

Hi garybear

If your computer constantly or often utilizes around 1 GB of physical memory (RAM) (what you have in your machine now) I think you would benefit from adding additional RAM.

They are still fairly cheap I think!

I find it strange that we do not ALL see that memory usage with IS360 that you mention.

Hi friend! I also find it strange that no one else sees this usage. Well almost no one!!

Hi friends.

Hi friends! I'm shutting down IObit 360 and leaving town for the week end. If I don't have any memory loss and every thing works, then IObit needs to fix this problem. I'm going to take a chance and leave PC running till I get back. What the hell, I need a new one any way and I think my wife is getting a wind farm so I'll be able to afford a new PC.:lol::lol::lol:

Hi garybear

Would you please show a screenshot where you have less than 50% free memory!

Those I have seen have had around 70% free memory.

By me the amount of free memory only decreases marginally (a few MB) if I have Outlook Express and IS360 open also, and the free memory goes up a few MB when I close them - at once.

Have you tried ticking off (deactivate) releasing memory when idle?

Cheers

Hi friend!! I'm not smart enough to figure this out. I will just let every thing run a few days and see what happens. I'm not using smart ram at the moment. My memory is staying around 70%. Maybe the trouble has gone away for now?? I've done up dates and some other things. Thanks for you help good friend!!garybear

Fingers crossed !!

Hi good friends!! I have done so many things that I will never know what was causing my problem. I uninstalled IObit 360 and reinstalled it. Did the same thing with IE8. Did a whole lot of things. My free memory is staying at 70% and IObit is releasing it back to my system just like all my other programs do. I have smart ram on and I'm running 70% free RAM at the moment. I have my fingers crossed and I hope we can close this thread as solved in a couple of weeks. My wife is not griping about Outlook Express not working and that makes me a happy camper. Before we celebrate to much, I have thought I had this solved before and the problem came back. Things are really looking good right now and different than before. I want to thank everyone for your help. Crossing my fingers .===garybear

Hi my friend!! I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have been trying to figure this out for a month. I was starting to believe I was the only member on the forum with this problem and was ready to just give up and just restart my PC when memory got low. Now I have new hope because of your post. I'm so thankful for your post and I owe you big time my friend. I searched and read all your posts. I have the exact same problem you posted. Are you still having the same problems??? I have lost 100MB in two days. I was waiting to see how much more I would lose before my PC became unresponsive. Thanks to you, I'm back in this fight, and I'm hoping you will join me. Thanks so much my friend.==garybear PS Maybe together we will get some attention and get this solved. Thanks again my friend!! After reading all your post I'm felling real bad because I didn't help you in the past. It seems to have gotten a lot worse lately. I'm hoping we get some attention.

OK garybear

Here you have only 57% free.

Is Outlook Express still responding?

Is it possible that you have some services automated that few others have?

In one instance enoskype could duplicate that the memory usage went up over time, as far as I have seen. He expected it to be fixed when the new version hits us.
