Enough Protection?

Sir K

Recommended Posts

I just put in a new HD on my computer after my wife and/or daughter caught something off FaceBook. I had had problems with the old HD before and that finally killed it. I am looking for better protection than I had before (Defender Pro 15-1, never again will I buy security software from Wal-Mart. My own fault). I am running WinXP SP3. I have Avast Free, ASC Free, MalWare Bytes, and Glary Utilities. I have had this running for about 5 days now and it runs very well. Much faster than the Norton that came installed with the System disks on reboot.

Here's the issue for me. I just ran Diagnose System with ASC and it showed 83 problems with System Optimization, 9593 problems with Security Defense and 16099 fragmented files. BUT 0 problems with Security Analyzer.

Here is the Hijack Report

Hi Sir K,

Please click on the 83 problems found link on the right of System Optimization to open the Details page. You can choose some of the optimizations to put in the Ignore List that ASC wants to apply and you may not want to change. This is all explained in USAGE of IOBIT PRODUCTS thread.

9593 problems found with Security Defense, are for immunization of your PC for badware (Web sites; cookies; ActiveX). It is a passive defence. Also explained and links given in Usage of IObit Products theread as above.

If you have 16099 fragmented files, I would advice to use other IObit free product Smart Defrag for defragmentation. For defragmentation information you can read General Discussion SD section and Think about Defragmentation!!! thread.

Security Analyzer gives 0 problems'' because there is no imminent thread, but I will give some advices below.

You should;

- Update your Adobe 7 to Adobe Reader 9.3.

- Update your Java 1.5.0_05 to Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.20 (32-bit)

- Download JavaRa and run to clean all the old Java clutter after uninstalling old versions.

- Update your Flash Player to Flash Player 10.1.53.64 RC 7 (IE)

- Uninstall Ask Toolbar with IObit Uninstaller. You can directly download IObit Uninstaller or, it is in the utilities of Advanced SystemCare 3.6.0712.

ALCXMNTR.EXE is Realtek's gathering data about customers program, I would not let it run.

There are some programs runnig that are resourse users, but that is all for the security side of it.

Perhaps somebodyelse may make a comment on the other running programs.

I would advise you to use IObit Security 360 anti-malware free program.

I am positively sure that you will like the ease of using it in real-time.

Only automatic updating and scheduled scanning is missing in free version.

Cheers.

Ok,

Updated Adobe, Java, Flash. Ran JavaRa. Got rid of Ask Toolbar.

How do you keep ALCXMNTR.EXE from running?

I haven't touched the 83 optimization issues yet. I want to read through the "This is all explained in USAGE of IOBIT PRODUCTS thread." first.

I understand that the ASC Scans are passive defence and I went ahead and cleaned the 9500+ and 16000+ (16500 today) with the Security Defense and Defrag. Should I be concerned that in less than 5 days (From install of ASC on 5/31 to today, 6/4) I have had this many things show up on a scan. I scanned and cleaned everything when I installed on 5/31.

Hi Sir K, well done.

9500+ immunization is nothing to do with cleanining, so it is normal.

16500+ fragmentation is also normal, as it is the first time you are defragmenting your drive after installation of OS.

Next time there will not be anything for security defense and there will be much less fragmentation.

Please bear in mind that as much as you are uninstalling, installing files, and using the PC, the files in the disk will become fragmented more in time.

It is important that:

After reading USAGE of IOBIT PRODUCTS thread, please choose carefuly what you want ASC to change for better performance, and put the rest to the Ignore List, so next time scan will not show those you have put to the Ignore List as problems unless you take them out again from Ignore List.

If yo have doubt about an item, put it to the ignore list.

Ask in the forum about the items that you have doubts.

Cheers.
