New beta 4.02 What a change...but 25 sec for a defrag?

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

Well it seems that 4.02 is better. The new version is running smoothly, maybe too smoothly.

It only takes 25 seconds to defrag and optimize my drive C !?? Is it normal?

Except this little problem, I've got another one. Impossible to defrag my external drive of 250 GB. It very nearly froze my computer.

Thanks for your answers.

Hi enoskype,

OK for the 25 sec, for the time being.

But that external drive keeps worrying me. ISD gets stuck at 10% ...then that external drive gets far too hot and I have to stop everything.

I tried another free software: Auslogics. It took 3 seconds. (no good either :) )

The only software that did the job was from Symantec (not a free one)

On that external drive I have my C:\driveimage, maybe that's the reason.

If one software manages to defrag my external drive I don't see why ISD shouldn't be able to do the same.:)

Hi MacPeter,

I believe my suspicion was right.

Assuming that your C drive is about 60-70 GB, with normal compression, an image is about 6-7 GBs.

This is quite a large file, and my guess is that, this is the reason.

Well, I wonder if any free Defrag program can do your external.

Let's hope that ISD will get better and will do that.

IMHO,

I wouldn't play with an image file for defragmentation.

As you may now, Acronis even can create a safe partition (if you wish) that Windows can not deal with, only with the purpose of not spoiling the image file.

NOTE:

Did you try the new available Beta 4.02 here ?

Let's hear if there is a difference.

Hi enoskype,

There was a change:), instead of those 25 seconds it needed 38 seconds and on all my drives the result was similar to the one of another user:

In ALL cases it finds 13 files of which 1 is fragmented and 3 dirs that are not fragmented at all.

I have more than 3 directories and 13 files on my C: drive:)

I had the same result on my other drives. Failure with the external.

But the program did its job well under Win 2000 Pro SP4 with NTFS. I wonder why? The instll was the same(a clean one) on both computers. I know because I installed it on both computers.:)

My guess is that you installed it without removing the blocking
