ASC System Optimization bottlenecks

Recommended Posts

After running the System Optimization tool it showed three bottlenecks within the Troubleshooting Category. All 3 were described as "Explorer Problems". A quick search of the Windows registry revealed that the 3 registry keys were all in the same 2 locations. My problem is that System Optimization lists the keys "Current Value" as N/A and the "Recommended" value as N/A. The question is "What does System Optimizer want to do?"

The two locations are as follows:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Regedit

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2616933955-1378681640-659132742-1006\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Regedit

The 3 keys and their data are as Follows:

NAME=FindFlags TYPE=REG_DWORD DATA=0x0000000e (14)

NAME=LastKey TYPE=REG_SZ DATA=My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{000204EF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\3.0\9\win32

NAME=View TYPE=REG_BINARY DATA=2C 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF 16 00 00 00 1D 00 00 00 D6 03 00 00 2C 02 00 00 D8 00 00 00 78 00 00 00 78 00 00 00 84 01 00 00 01 00 00 00

Welcome to the forum toolman638 :smile:

Relevant aside:

Since you are using XP I would like to recommend you have a look at ERUNT to make a backup of the Registry. ERUNT will automatically backup the Registry once a day and manually if you want.

When you have this ERUNT backup you will feel more at ease when doing anything with the Registry. Before using ERUNT I was a Nervous Nellie when it came to the Registry, now I am a Fearless Warrior (ok, that's an exaggeration :grin: )

You can read more about it in This Thread

All the best, woz of oz

Thanks to the support team for giving the OK to let ASC fix the 3 keys. No issues afterwards. Thanks also to wozofoz for the tip on ERUNT registry backup. I installed and am using now. I too am a fearless warrior in the registry. self taught. My original question was if the entries were safe to fix but also why ASC wouldn't give any info on the fix. Although only one of the questions were answered (the important one) my issue was resolved and plus I got a good tip.

Thanks
